I wanted to write this post since 2 weeks now but hell I am a super lazy person :)

The other day I was invited as a blogger to come and witness the N9 launch in Sheraton Karachi by Mr. Henri Mattila, Solution Marketing Manager, Nokia MEA.

N9 the pricing set for N9 is PKR. 52,000/- with 16GB and is now available in White color. The good part about colors is that now you don't have to worry that much about scratches because even after the scratch the color will remain same as there is no paint job this time

I wanted to share this post because I was very excited to see this huge mart in Karachi

The other day me and my friend were passing from Afridi INN in Karachi and we were going towards hotnspicy roll corner and we saw this HyperStar Logo which resembles carrefour logo. I was like what the hell, why I didn't knew about it and then I saw many cars going inn and we decided to go as well.

Kher jee, we parked the car and went inside the mall Dolmen City where HyperStar is opened and then I saw the counters and I was convinced carrefour have to do some thing with him and I asked one of the employee bhai is this carrefour or hyper star? and his replied was yes; its a merger b/w two and I am still not sure wether he was right or wrong

Moving forward, we started from the electronics section and we spent 3 hours surveying store and we were like very nice now we don't need to waste our time in electronics market and ask for discount e.t.c. because the BEST possible pricing with best possible deals was available there so my tension of going to Electronic market was over. I saw the pricing of shaver and LCD and I know there was a difference of 1000 rupees with free delivery by HyperStar to any where in Karachi. Same goes for Spice market, Auto market and I was finally able to see Red Sniper Fish there which I was not able to find any where easily and such huge CRAB for (Crab Lovers) :)

So Guyz what are you waiting for they have outlet now in Karachi and Lahore go check out and now you don't need to go to any other market!

How To Install MyTOP – a clone for MySql

Setting up Repository:

http://dag.wieers.com is the biggest rpm repository for RHEL, CentOS for all versions. To enable repository run following command. The following command directly install rpm from http://dag.wieers.com site.

rpm -Uhv http://apt.sw.be/redhat/el5/en/i386/rpmforge/RPMS/rpmforge-release-0.3.6-1.el5.rf.i386.rpm

This rpm will add necessary files in our repository configuration and can be viewed at /etc/yum.repos.d/rpmforge.repo

Install MyTop:

Use yum command to install mytop

yum -y install mytop

Done!

Now; time to Run MyTop and it is simple

Running MyTop:

write mytop on the command line and there you go!

Monit - Superb service in Asterisk

Since I installed it, It has made our lives easy and relax-able. Whenever asterisk crashes, monit restarts it.

Install monit by "yum install monit" or rpm

http://packages.sw.be/monit/monit-5.2.3-1.el4.rf.x86_64.rpm
http://packages.sw.be/monit/monit-5.2.3-1.el4.rf.i386.rpm

Then open /etc/monit.conf and at the end add these lines

# Asterisk Monitoring rule

set logfile syslog facility log_daemon
set alert noc@yourdomain.com (or what ever email address you want)
check process asterisk with pidfile /var/run/asterisk.pid

if 5 restarts within 5 cycles then timeout

service monit start
chkconfig monit on

Also you can check load average and cpu usag

if loadavg (5min) > 15 then alert
if memory usage > 85% then alert

if cpu usage (user) > 80% then alert
if cpu usage (system) > 70% then alert
if cpu usage (wait) > 70% then alert

Also start sendmail if it is not running

THIS POEM WAS WRITTEN BY A BROTHER....CARRY ON READING YOU'LL KNOW WHAT I MEAN, ITS ABOUT A BEARD....

Context of poem

I came to eat dinner in my halls of residence one day last year when two sisters started laughing at me;I had some food stuck in my beard. They went on to innocently and honestly mock my beard saying it was messy, unnatural and unhygienic. Little did they know the rage that I felt as a result of this and I channeled this rage byunleashing my anger through my pen and out came this poem.

I performed this poem in the Leicester University/DMU Islamic Societies and Eid Celebration and it was received with much laughter and acclaim - Alhamdulillah. Due to popular demand and many requests I have decided to type my poem up and email it to my friends in Islam. Let me remind you all not to be offended as this is no fatwa or religious statement - just a funny poem that spontaneously was produced as a result of my unfortunate experience...

Glorified be He who beautifies women with long locks of hair
And Men with long beards
There is beauty in the beard
Aye, there is beauty in the beard!
When the lion roars all the animals submit?
For the lion is the king of the jungle
The lion with its glorious mane
And a Muslim man grows his mane in pride
Showing the rest of humanity that he is to be respected
Can one imagine a lion without its mane?
Nay, thou canst not!
Then imagine a man without his beard

Woe to worldly women who mock the beards so!
Desiring husbands with clean shaven faces
Woe to women who mock the Prophets Sunnah
In the name of hygiene, neatness and smooth texture
Indeed the women of this world cannot like the beard
But she who wants Paradise adores the beard!

A beard is a gift given to man
Something only he can grow; a woman never can!
When he ponders, he gently strokes it;
When he eats, it stores food;
When he is with kids, they play with it adoringly;
When he is with his wife, she fondles it lovingly;
When the enemy see it, fear is struck in their hearts!

Ah! there is indeed beauty in the beard!
All the Prophets had beards - yes they did!
Muhammad had a beard - so big! so big!
All the companions had beards - o yes! o yes!
All the sages had beards - I know! I know!
All the wise have beards - tis true! tis true!
All the pious have beards - you see! you see!
All the Muslims have beards!? - if only! if only!
Who did not have beards? The kafirun!
Who had clean shaven faces? The kafirun!
Who grew their moustaches? The kafirun!

"And what did our Prophet order?" I here you ask
He ordered us to lengthen the beard and trim the moustache!
Lengthen the beard and trim the moustache!
What greater reason that this can there be
The fact that our Prophet told us to see
That we make ourselves appear to the world
As full bearded men with honour untold
O Muslim brother! Why do you desire to look like a woman
When your blessed facial hair is the differece between you and the opposite gender?

O poor Muslim brother! Why do you imitate the kafir
Instead of following the Prophet of Islam?
O silly Muslim sister! Why are you so blind?
Infatuated with Bollywood actors who have no mind!
O wretched sister! Are you not scared of your choice?
You would rather have a feminine monkey instead of an exalted manly ape!

So indeed I love my beard
And adore the curls and tangles
Which no oil, gel or superglue can ever straighten
My glorious long, curly, messy, fluffy beard!
The playhouse for kids;
The envy of Malaysian people
And the beloved of Allah!
I maybe rejected by worldly women because of this hair on my face
But who care! For my Mum loves it and she puts all such sisters to disgrace!
Be patient Muslim brothers, who shun the trendy look for a Prophetic pose
Paradise with the wide eyed Houris is our final abode!!!!!

Brothers and sisters in Islam,

Several years ago, an Imam from out-of-state accepted a call to a Mosque in Houston, Texas.

Some weeks after he arrived, he had an occasion to ride the bus from his home to the downtown area. When he sat down, he discovered that the driver had accidentally given him a quarter too much change.

As he considered what to do, he thought to himself, 'You'd better give the quarter back. It would be wrong to keep it.' Then he thought, 'Oh, forget it,
it's only a quarter. Who would worry about this little amount? Anyway, the bus company gets too much fare; they will never miss it.

Accept it as a 'gift from ALLAH' and keep quiet.' When his stop came, he paused momentarily at the door, and then he handed the quarter to the driver and said, 'Here, you gave me too much change 'The driver, with a smile, replied, 'Aren't you the
new Imam in town?' 'Yes' he replied.
'Well, I have been thinking a lot lately about going somewhere to worship. I just wanted to see what you would do if I gave you too much change. I'll see you at the mosque.'

When the preacher stepped off of the bus, he literally grabbed the nearest light pole, held on, and said, 'Oh ALLAH, I almost sold you for a quarter.'

Our lives are the only Quran some people will ever read. This is a really scary example of how much people watch us as Muslims, and will put us to the test! Always be on guard -- and remember -- You carry your IMAN on your shoulders when you call yourself 'Muslim.'

Watch your thoughts; they become words.
Watch your words; they become actions.
Watch your actions; they become habits.
Watch your habits; they become character.
Watch your character; it becomes your destiny.

1) Use strong Passwords: We can't stress this one enough: Use strong
passwords! One of the first actions many people do when after they install
their PBX, is often to create a phone extension with an easy password. Avoid
using short or weak extension passwords. Please remember to use passwords of
at least 8 characters, including a mix of upper and lower case along with
digits. Remember to change them periodically every 2-3 months at most.

2) Public Internet: Avoid leaving your PBX systems, ATA Adapters and IP
Phones open to the internet. Do not use DMZ mode on your router and do not
forward ports to your equipment, unless you absolutely know what you are
doing. This is only needed on specific cases, and only leave it open to the
internet if you have experience on how to properly manage security on
equipment that is open to the internet.

3) Asterisk Tweak: If you are using an Asterisk based PBX, add the
following line to the sip.conf file under the [general] section and issue a
reload
alwaysauthreject = yes

What this parameter does, is that it will always return an authentication
error instead of a .404 not found:., even when the extension doesn't exist.
This steps-up the difficulty for brute force scanners when they are
attacking your PBX.

4) Trixbox, PBX In a Flash and other web interface based PBX: Change
the default password. Different flavors of PBX installs come with default
administration passwords. Make sure to change the default passwords
immediately after your installation and also make sure the web interface is
not reachable from the internet.

5) PBX Dial Plan: Do you make international calls? If no, do not allow
international calls to be placed from your PBX. In Asterisk, remove ._011..
Or .00_. . Never use ._... If you are only calling a few countries on a
regular basis, enable these countries only. For example: The only country
you're calling is UK? Only configure _01144. In your dialplan.

6) Use additional caution while travelling: Do you plan on using a soft
phone at a random internet cafe? Make sure you remove your login details
after using it, and uninstall the software if possible.

7) Asterisk and Fail2ban: As an additional step you can install an
additional security tool such as fail2ban, which is a free brute force
detection system, it scans the log files of your PBX and then takes action
based on the entries of those logs.

Shoe attack on Zardari - Serves him right!

Finally after so much curses and talk talk talk.. One man was able to protest practically in Birmingham on our great Zardari. Zardari is the president of Pakistan, a president who cannot cancel his trip in the times of crisis in the country. Pakistan is currently facing worst floods and need every thing they can to get out of this crisis. Not to mention history of Pakistan doesn't show flood in Pakistan with such density in the past.

I still remember there was an earthquake or flood in china and their president was on the spot with in 2 hours helping people and making sure an action is being taken to fix the situation and what did our AKA did? went on an official trip of Europe in times of EMERGENCY in the country.

Well history repeats it self, yesterday Mr Bush was loved by his people and loved by whole world so much that a guy in Iraq throwed shoe on him, similarly now a days no one can deny with Zardari's popularity who recently demanded 10% from Bill Gates for opening a software house near Gawadar, so much for being a president :)

Well coming back to our topic, finally a Pakistani elder had guts to throw shoes on President Zardari during his speech in Birmingham. This guy showed the true voice of every one in Pakistan!

A Nice story with a good moral. Please go through.

A kindergarten teacher has decided to let her class play a game.

The teacher told each child in the class to bring along a plastic bag containing a few potatoes.

Each potato will be given a name of a person that the child hates,

So the number of potatoes that a child will put in his/her plastic bag will depend on the number of people he/she hates.

So when the day came, every child brought some potatoes with the name of the people he/she hated. Some had 2 potatoes; some 3 while some up to 5 potatoes. The teacher then told the children to carry with them the potatoes in the plastic bag wherever they go (even to the toilet) for 1 week.

Days after days passed by, and the children started to complain due to the unpleasant smell let out by the rotten potatoes. Besides, those having 5 potatoes also had to carry heavier bags. After 1 week, the children were relieved because the game had finally ended....

The teacher asked: "How did you feel while carrying the potatoes with you for 1 week?". The children let out their frustrations and started complaining of the trouble that they had to go through having to carry the heavy and smelly potatoes wherever they go.

Then the teacher told them the hidden meaning behind the game. The teacher said: "This is exactly the situation when you carry your hatred for somebody inside your heart. The stench of hatred will contaminate your heart and you will carry it with you wherever you go. If you cannot tolerate the smell of rotten potatoes for just 1 week, can you imagine what is it like to have the stench of hatred in your heart for your lifetime???"

Moral of the story: Throw away any hatred for anyone from your heart so that you will not carry sins for a lifetime. Forgiving others is the best attitude to take!

True love is not loving a perfect person but loving an imperfect person perfectly!!

I was going through different forums today and found out Zong has launched a new service with the

name of Chine-Ease .. my anxietiness forced me to go on their web site and read more about the

service .. to my surprise the title of the page http://zong.com.pk/zong_chine_ease.html says

UNTITLED now such a big company not taking care of this mere stuff.

Not complaining just want you all to send them complain / suggestion to fix this, like I did.

Coming back to the offer they are making Chinese number on your Pakistani number where you can

easily recieve calls on your Pakistani number when some one will dial a China number or vice versa.

The pricing goes like:

SCO is Special Communication Organization; GM network in Azad Jammu Kashmir and Northern Areas.

Ok; now I came accross a new wbsite which will help you to fulfil the same task by going there. Here is what you have to do:

I think this is pretty amazing service, usually when you deal with franchise they use your NIC to issue x amount of sims. If consumers think they’re being harassed by robocallers, they need to let us know, and we will go after them.”

The new requirement is part of amendments to the agency’s Telemarketing Sales Rule (TSR) that were announced a year ago. After September 1, sellers and telemarketers who transmit prerecorded messages to consumers who have not agreed in writing to accept such messages will face penalties of up to $16,000 per call

Yup, 14th August 1947 Pakistan; the day history was marked and a new map took place on the face of World Map. Nation which was the dream of Iqbal, nation for which million's of people sacrificed their live, a nation having name as Pakistan meaning 'Land of Pure'

14th August 2009, 62nd Independence day and yet still there as Faisal Kapadia said on Dawn "We keep getting bumped from left and right from down, above" and yet our people, our nation is there to make the mark in the world to be the best in all fields.

Almost all of us know and experience streets covered green, car, bikes, houses every where Green flag, people happy and celebrating their independence day but I don't believe this ever happened where Pakistani 'blaagers' including my self made #Pakistan a trending topic on twitter. In addition to this the go Green VIRTUAL rally innitiated by Farhan Masood where more then 10,000 people changed their Display Pictures in to Geen one having crescent, star with an outline in the white.

Now; one thing we should all understand is that we have potential, we have power, we have confidence, we know we can do it and we know that until we stand United; no one can snatch this from us. Also; we should not forget what happened in Gojra; remember Pakistani flag does not only represent Green background, crescent and star but it also represent the white space which shows minorities. Pakistan is not only for Muslims, Islam never teaches us to burn the houses of people from other relegion infact it teaches us to win their hearts by showing kindness towards them. Love people and try to help every one. Prophet (P.B.U.H) never taught us to torch people who don't follow relegion or who are not muslims.

People live, life long and make sure you are not hurting any one by the attitude you have adapted. No matter how corrupt our nation is, how corrupt leaders can be... don't leave the effort you can do in your domain for Pakistan for Pakistani people. Remember 'Your leaders will reflect your image'. Once we all start caring for people, start taking care of small law's, rules and regulations automatically there will be good leaders out there on the top reflecting our country. Avoid negativity; spread, talk and think postively.

I was trying to purchase ticket since 3 weeks for ciniplex and was not able to get their on time.

Like as soon as I reach their the one sentence which they say is ... HOUSE FULL and then it stuck in my mind wouldn't it be better if they just integrate sms service ... where people can call them on phone and book the ticket and to make sure they are not lying they will sms the money with the help of sms to the merchant (in our case Ciniplex)

Similarly; this can help people to pay the utility bills and soon the day will be there when people can will be using this on every store and they don't have to carry the Paper Money or even Credit Cards....

Wow.. well let's hope this happens soon :)

PTCL would be shifting to 8 Digits from 7 Digits

Since some time now, it was being heard that PTCL woudl be shifting land line from 7 Digits to 8 digits to increase the pool of numbers available. Earlier in April and March they did the testing on some of the exhcnages in Karachi by adding '3' before the actual number and after the area code like '02134111111'. This is official now where Media and News Paper confirmed it. is now confirmed as reported by different media channels and news papers. Link for one of the news paper Business Recorder follows.

Pakistan Telecommunication Company Ltd (PTCL) would shift its fixed line numbering plan from 7 to 8 digit series as per the instructions of Pakistan Telecommunication Authority. Initially migration from 7 series to 8 digit series would take place in Lahore and Karachi.

As per details, Digit “3″ will be added in all existing 7 digits numbers of Karachi and Lahore except the numbers starting from “9″. Digit “9″ will be added in all existing numbers starting from “9″. An important point to remember is the numbers are being added to existing numbers not area codes, with the exemption of army exchanges, which would remain same.

For the customer’s awareness and facilitation, the new series plan will run parallel to old one for a period of three months w.e.f. July 1, 2009 till September 30, 2009. The period from October 1, 2009 till December 30, 2009 will be covered by announcements which would be made in order to facilitate subscribers/ customers.

Long awaited after 1992 World Cup.. Pakistan Army in Green did it again .. Long after Imran Khan today.. a young side of Pakistan led by Younis Khan did it again they got the T20 World Cup for Pakistan.

Bowling opened by Mohammed Aamer and Razzak and soon Pakistan was able to send 6 of the Sri Lankan batsmen back to pavillion but then there was a time when Sangakara and Matthews were stable on the wicket and was doing as much damage as possible .. but then a little delight ful bowling by Gul, Ajmal and Aamer and then Sri Lankans manage to score a total of 138/6 was a great fightback by Sangakara and Matthews; It was not easy to score this total in so much pressure...

Kamran Akmal and Shahzaib started the batting and at one time it seems that we gave the match to Sri Lankans :( It was not a bad start but was slow.. but then after the dismissal of Akmal boom came inn and u know what Boom Boom do .. he got good support by Shahzaib and Shoaib and finally on the 4th delivery of 19th over Afridi took leg bye on Malinga's delivery and Chanting's in the air.. firing accross the Pakistan.. Pakistan the cricket crazy nation won the T20 World Cup :)

New Budget Seems to be Anti Telecom Budget in Pakistan

Recently Budget has been announced in Pakistan where 20 Paisa tax is imposed on each of the sms being sent by any mobile operator.

Which means the bundle offer by Zong CM pk, Telenor, Ufone and Mobilink will be of no use any more. 20 paisa is tax and then there will be the charges by the operator which can be around 7 to 9 Paisa which means cost for Mobile operator will be 29 Paisa.

Now i believe no more bundle offers will be offered in Pakistan :).

Though, good part is Sales Tax will be lowered to 19% and Sim Activation is slashed to half.

This all seems to be weired where Telecom Compalies spent millions in advertising their Bulk SMS campaigns but now it seems all will be sent to trash.

There should be a body to take action on all this or one day no fdi will see Pakistan as opportunity when it comes to Telecom business

Tragic news spread all over Sillicon Valley. Rajeev Motwani, a prominent Silicon Valley angel investor and the Stanford professor perhaps best known for serving as the adviser for Larry Page and Sergey Brin during the formative years of Google, has passed away.

Rajeev was an ardent supporter of Silicon Valley startups, investing and mentoring many of them while continuing his research at Stanford University. With investments in companies that included PayPal and Google, he saw an overwhelming amount of success. And through it all he continued to give back to the community though his mentorship, investments, and his time at Stanford, where he continued to teach as recently as last semester.

Nokia’s Ovi Store Opens For Business

Nokia’s very own centralized application marketplace, dubbed Ovi Store, today officially made its way to the public arena

It will have to stand up and fight against other notable mobile content stores such as Apple’s App Store, Windows Mobile Marketplace and BlackBerry’s Application Center. Nokia is rolling out the app and content store globally (with credit card support), but currently reserves operator billing for customers in Australia, Singapore, Spain, Italy, Germany, Russia, Ireland and the UK. Additional countries and languages will be added throughout the year, with AT&T planning to make Ovi Store available to its customers in the U.S. later this year.

Nokia claims more than 50 of its mobile devices are compatible with the service as of today, with more slated to roll out over time, and estimates that around 50 million people with Nokia devices will be able to license content and download applications from the Ovi Store right now. The 28-page report said investments in concentrating solar power (CSP) plants were set to exceed two billion euros ($2.80 billion) worldwide this year, with the biggest installations under construction in southern Spain and California.

‘Concentrating solar power could meet up to seven per cent of the world’s projected power needs in 2030 and a full quarter by 2050,’ it said of the most optimistic scenario.

That assumes a giant surge in investments to 21 billion euros a year by 2015 and 174 billion a year by 2050, creating hundreds of thousands of jobs. Under that scenario, solar plants would have installed capacity of 1,500 gigawatts by 2050.

That is far more optimistic than business-as-usual projections by the Paris-based IEA, which advises rich nations. It indicates that ‘by 2050 the penetration of solar power would be no higher than 0.2 per cent globally,’ the report noted.

CSP uses arrays of hundreds of mirrors or lenses to concentrate the sun’s rays to temperatures between 400 and 1,000 Celsius (750-1,800 Fahrenheit) to provide energy to drive a power plant.

Sunny

It differs from solar photovoltaics, which turn the sun’s rays directly into electricity in panels and generate some power even on overcast days. CSP works only under sunny skies.

‘We now have a third billion-dollar technology alongside wind and solar photovoltaics,’ Teske told Reuters.

The report said generation costs range from 0.15 to 0.23 euros per kilowatt hour — above fossil fuels or many renewables — and would fall to 0.10-0.14 euros by 2020. Guaranteed sales prices were needed to spur investments, it said.

CSP installations made up just 430 Megawatts of the world’s electricity generation capacity at the end of 2008.

‘CSP plants can deliver reliable industry-scale power supply around the clock due to storage technologies and hybrid operations within the power plant,’ said Jose Nebrera, president of ESTELA.

TOKYO: Google has long been the king of search, dominating rivals including Yahoo Inc. and Microsoft Corp. But it increasingly sees social networks such as Facebook as challengers to its search engine, a Google official said.

As people search out advice online for everyday, personal decisions, the standard list of links served up by Google is not seen as intimate or trustworthy, Google Group Product Manager Ken Tokusei said Monday. For decisions such as choosing a restaurant or a day care provider, social networking sites or known review sites have an advantage, he said.

Such sites offer information from friends or acquaintances, and Tokusei said users tend to trust that information more. This puts Google’s results at a disadvantage.

‘We haven’t gotten to the point where results are seen as if they come from someone you know,’ he said.

The search giant has begun to offer tools for users to rate results and delete unrelated links, but it still has work to do, he said.

As Internet users gain savvy and experience, they also expect better-honed answers to queries. Sites such as WolframAlpha, launched earlier this month, comb the Internet for data, and analyze it to provide specific answers to queries, rather than a list of sites.

Google Inc. does something similar for some searches, providing price quotes for ‘Sony stock’ or an answer for ‘Tunisia capital.’ But it also provides the familiar list of sites to dig further, a strategy it is unlikely to change.

‘It’s a matter of determining what kind of information the user is looking for. But we will always serve some links to pages with our results,’ said Tokusei.

He spoke to reporters at Google’s Japanese headquarters in Tokyo, where he gave an overview of the company’s basic search tools.

Google has developed a host of expanding tools and services, from a mobile operating system to an online word processor, but it devotes 70 percent of its employees and resources to search.

The company still faces fresh competition from its traditional rivals, which are regrouping in an attempt to take back market share.

Microsoft has failed to make much headway in repeated Internet ventures. But the deep-pocketed company, which has poured hundreds of millions of dollars into improving its search engine, continues to develop a new search technology, part of which is called ‘Kumo’ internally.

Yahoo, which has seen its share of total online searches conducted plummet to Google, is tweaking its search results, cutting out some links and emphasizing images and video.

The justification for revision is development of new residential sectors deemed necessary to cope
with shortage of housing units in the federal capital. According to news reports, another proposal
had been made in the revised Master Plan to increase the total number of residential sectors from
56 to 68 for ensuring thousands of additional housing units in the city. The development of new
residential sectors could help meet the demand for new housing units however all hinges on approval
of the revised Master Plan without further delay

The Mott McDonald Pakistan (MMP) UK's revision of their original Master Plan of Islamabad new
housing sectors, extension in municipal limits, industrial activities, environmental protection,
road repair, new parks and recreational areas and safety of existing water reservoirs was finished
in 2005. The draft revised Master Plan of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) has been doing
the rounds for years now without any decision. Upgrading Islamabad is essential to keep the country
competitive.

It is time that the government found the will to decide on the issue. After all, the Master Plan of
Islamabad is being revised on full-scale only for the first time since the establishment of the city in
1960s

ISLAMABAD: Singapore Telecommunication (SingTel) is set to jump into Pakistan's telecom market and its talks with Abu Dhabi Group for sale out of more stakes of Waridtel are gearing up as SingTel already owns 30 per cent stake in Warid Telecom.
Well-placed sources told APP on condition of anonymity that the agreement between Singapore Telecommunication Company and Abu Dhabi Group is likely to be signed before June 2009. The decision comes as the company is facing a saturated domestic market while the country comprises only 4.8 million people. Feeling the heat, SingTel has spent 18 billion Singapore dollars to invest in countries such as India, Indonesia, and in the bigger Australian market. Revenue growth in Singapore is expected to slow down to single digit in the year to March 2010. Reportedly, SingTel has expressed its keenness for acquisition after warning that revenue growth in its home market would squeeze due to strong Singapore dollar.

When contacted, a senior official of Warid Telecom said that the deal with SingTel was yet to be confirmed. However, if it goes through, this deal would prove positive for the company as well as Pakistani telecom industry. SingTel earlier posted a 17 per cent drop in quarterly net profit, which is much smaller than expected. Accord on literacy thru cell phones

KARACHI: Mobilink, Pakistan's major cellular service and part of Orascom Telecom Holding, signed a partnership agreement with United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) for provision of literacy to adolescent girls using cell phones.

Commenting on the partnership, Bilal Munir Sheikh, Vice President Marketing, Mobilink said, "as market leader, Mobilink actively supports initiatives that combine the benefits of technology to reach out to the community. This is the first of its kind initiative in the world and with Unesco's expertise in the field of education, we hope to create a model that the world can follow and learn from."

Elaborating on the project, Maurice Robson, Director Unesco stated, "this literacy programme will use mobile phones as a common and popular means of communication among the youth, to develop a mobile-based, distance post-literacy programme where the new literates receive post-literacy materials as messages on mobile.
Pakistan has one of the lowest literacy rates in Asia. There is a large gender gap. The literacy rate for males over 15 years is 63 per cent while that for females it is 36 per cent.

The reasons for the prevailing situation in Pakistan are complex. In order to maintain the literacy skills after basic literacy courses, the new literates should have constant access to reading materials, at least for three months afterwards. But for most of the new literates, reading material is scarce and the occasions to use the acquired literacy skills are rare. The programme has two phases. In the first phase, adolescent girls will receive interesting and informative text messages daily in Urdu and are expected to respond.

The method is believed to be far more effective than conventional print based post-literacy programmes in maintaining interest and in keeping literacy skills alive. The second phase of the programme includes monthly evaluation to assess the gain of knowledge, interactive exercises, a glossary of educational terms and additional resources.
The first phase of this programme will cover 250 learners in Punjab in the next 4 months and will be expanded in other areas on effective outcomes. Mobilink also supports The Citizen's Foundation education programme, Zindagi Trust, Roshni Homes Trust and Lums. -APP

PTA has suggested the FBR to slash the taxes imposed on telecom sector from 21 per cent to 16 per cent.
ISLAMABAD: Telecom industry would hear a 'good news' in the upcoming budget as the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has recommended the federal government to curb tax ratio on the telecom sector to bring the sector at par with other sectors.
These views were expressed by Dr Muhammad Yaseen, Chairman PTA, while sharing views with media here at a local hotel after a telecom seminar held in connection with the World Telecom Day. He said heavy taxation had adversely affected the telecom growth, seeing which PTA has suggested the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to slash the taxes imposed on telecom sector from 21 per cent to 16 per cent.
When asked whether the management of Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) had informed about their step to reduce the timeline for broadband dialup, the PTA chairman said there was no decrease and if the media had any evidence, it should submit it to him and he would look into the matter.
The chairman said PTA had introduced so many steps to help grow the telecom sector and these were being hailed by the nations across the globe. "However, due to joint efforts, the fourth quarter saw a positive growth, making the annual growth positive," he added. "We have introduced mobile banking and now working on mobile agriculture and other new initiatives," he said, adding that the companies should also opt for 'out-of-box' solutions to enhance telecom growth. "There are countries with more than 100 per cent teledensity and we would have to search for new opportunities to take the telecom sector ahead," he added. Urging the telecom sector to focus on broadband services, Dr Yaseen said PTA had developed broadband group and three companies including Wateen and Mobilink were set to launch Wimax solutions for the consumers. While speaking at Nokia Siemens Networks Industry seminar as the chief guest, the Chairman PTA said to achieve cost efficiency in the operations, there is a pressing need of enhanced collaboration and partnership among all telecom companies. "By sharing infrastructure, companies can save cost and yet maintain quality. PTA is pursuing mobile operators for sharing infrastructure to reduce BTS towers and other sites so that costs of business can be tamed down," said the PTA Chief.
He emphasised on the importance of broadband proliferation to achieve goal of setting up `Information Society'. He said that massive awareness campaign is needed to be launched to improve broadband growth besides developing contents in local languages and applications.
Dr Yaseen said PTA has made coordinated efforts to facilitate broadband growth by forming a "Broadband Stakeholders Group" and other measures. He also told about PTA negotiations with State Bank to introduce Mobile Banking Services.
He said that three operators are in the process of launching mobile broadband services. Two operators have launched E-video services. All these innovative services will help provisioning of better information services to consumers and will bring increased revenues for the industry.

Silicon Valley (California), May 23 (ANI): Pakistan netizens are posting more localized information and data to the Google’s ‘map maker’ than the web users of any of the 160 countries which are using the leading internet search engine’s experiment.

Lalit Katragadda, the founder of Map Maker software informed that a particular Pakistani based in London has posted most frequent edits to the Google’s Map Maker, a user-operated software.
Katragadda, who is based in Bangalore, told The Nation via teleconference that the software updates information instantly after a user sitting anywhere in the world within 160 countries posts an edit to the live Map Maker.

When questions were put forth regarding the authenticity of the data provided by any of the net users, Katragadda said, it can always be verified by the software.

“We can always verify from authentic as well as independent sources within an hour’s time,” he added.
Any such experiment, related to a country’s geographical territory can always be a sensitive issue, and could have some implications, but the Google’s Map Maker had not come across any political issues till now.

NEW DELHI: India faces a greater threat from China than Pakistan because New Delhi knows little about Beijing's combat capabilities; India's air force chief told a newspaper in an interview published on Sunday.

The world's two most populous nations fought a brief but brutal war over their 3,500 km (2,200 mile) Himalayan border in 1962, and both sides claim the other is occupying big but largely uninhabited chunks of their territory.

India has also been pursuing closer relations with the United States, something that worries China.

China has a standing army almost three times the size of Pakistan's, according to official figures and defence industry estimates, but it is the lack of knowledge about China's military that concerned Air Chief Marshal Fali Homi Major.

"We know very little about the actual capabilities of China, their combat edge or how professional their military is," Major said.

"They are certainly a greater threat."

India and Pakistan have fought three wars since independence in 1947 and tensions between the nuclear-armed neighbours rose sharply after last November's Mumbai attack, which killed 166 people. A slow-moving peace process was paused after the attack.

Samsung is recalling about 160,000 Jitterbug cell phones. When the recalled cell phones are in a no-service area and display an "out of range, try again later" message, they could fail to connect to emergency 911.

This recall involves "Jitterbug" cell phones model numbers SPH-a110 and SPH-a120 with standard key pads and version BB14 software. No other Samsung wireless phones or software versions are included in this recall.

The phones, made in Korea, were sold directly to consumers through targeted national advertisements and publications, electronics and drug stores nationwide, and on the Web at www.jitterbug.com from March 2008 through May 2009 for about $150.

To understand the networking gear market, you need to learn three basic things.

First, despite a dip amid the current recession, demand is destined to grow over the long term to keep up with an explosion of Internet traffic, online data, videos, games and text messages.

Second, Cisco Systems CSCO is the industry's undisputed gorilla. The company has a foothold in nearly every aspect of networking, though a strong cast of rivals competes against Cisco for certain subsets of this market.

Third, forget everything else you know about the business -- this lucrative market is about to enter a state of flux.

Worldwide sales of networking gear are expected to top $117 billion this year, according to market research firm Dell'Oro Group. Vendors are merging or partnering to bulk up and grab more market share. And technological change is a constant.

For instance, cloud computing and virtualization are becoming big trends for data centers, and both require reliable, high-capacity networks. At the same time, mobile phone carriers must continually roll out new services to please consumers.

This spring, Cisco alienated its longtime sales partners Hewlett-Packard HPQ and IBM IBM by launching its own competing line of servers. Cisco envisions an integrated system that bundles networking, processing power and storage into a unified package.

Meanwhile, computer giant HP has elbowed into the networking market with its own ProCurve line of products. Such shifting dynamics are creating new alliances for vendors such as Juniper Networks JNPR, Brocade Communication Systems BRCD and possibly Netgear NTGR and Extreme Networks EXTR.

1. Business

Computer networks are critical for any information-based economy. Networking equipment is essential for connecting digital devices to each other and moving data from point A to point B. Networks transmit packets of electronic data so users can talk or share information. Cell phone calls, Internet searches and Web transactions would all be impossible without a solid foundation of networks.

As the Internet proliferates and analog media goes digital, corporations, governments and universities will depend more and more on networking gear.

Networking equipment makers have a range of business models. Some build their own gear. Others contract for most supplies and simply assemble the systems.

Riverbed Technology RVBD focuses much of its research-and-development budget to build complex software that runs on cheap commodity hardware. The approach leads to large gross margins -- anywhere from 60% to 80% -- according to Eric Wolford, Riverbed's senior vice president.

"Building your own custom hardware is expensive, often involving the design of (computer) chips and boards," he said. "This gets you into a high capital-expense business and a much different model than we use."

While the barriers to entry are low in any given niche of networking gear, building a broad portfolio of products and earning the trust of buyers is tough.

The old saying "Nobody ever got fired for buying IBM," could easily apply today with Cisco. The more dependent a customer is on their network infrastructure, the less they're willing to risk on a newcomer.

But that hasn't stopped a slew of small firms from entering the market to cash in on a flood of bandwidth-hungry digital music, on-demand movies, videoconferencing and YouTube video. And the amount of data moving through corporate networks is growing at 60% to 100% per year, according to Brocade CEO Mike Klayko.

"We provide technology and services to a marketplace with an appetite that can't be satisfied," Klayko said. "When I look out at this market and see our growth opportunity from my standpoint, I'm kind of giddy."

Brocade got its start in storage-area networks used to archive data. Last year, Brocade paid $3 billion for Foundry Networks, which makes network switches for Internet traffic. As a result, Brocade is partnering with HP and it appears to be taking market share from Cisco, says Ryan Hutchinson of Lazard Capital Markets.

Brocade's integration of Foundry is "proceeding very well," according to a research note from Hutchinson on May 13.

"Our checks indicate that Brocade and HP will likely announce a formal relationship to sell Foundry products," he wrote. "We believe this is an effort to counterbalance Cisco's recent entry the server market."

Cisco CEO John Chambers recently cited the wild popularity of online videos as the next killer app for networks. Toward that end, Cisco in March bought Pure Digital Technologies, makers of the Flip mini camcorder. Analysts expect more market maneuvers from Cisco and its rivals.

2. Market

Networking gear customers buy a broad range of equipment. Most networks involve routers to direct the flow of traffic and switches to branch data off into different certain nodes and devices.

Local area networks, or LANs, connect computers across a company or campus. Metro area networks move data around a city. Wide area networks, or WANs, transmit data across states and continents.

The industry serves three main customer groups. One is gear for telecom service providers, or carriers, to build wired public networks. This segment includes underground cables made of copper and optical fibers. Sales of such wireline products for service providers are expected to decline 8% this year over last year to $35.7 billion, according to Dell'Oro Group.

A second subset involves the equipment that carriers use to build wireless networks for cell phones and other mobile devices. This market is set to fall 3% this year to $42.1 billion.

The last subset involves products to build private networks for enterprise clients. This group includes ethernet switches to link up computers as well as storage-area networks, which pool storage devices. Sales of such enterprise networking gear should fall 9% this year to $39.5 billion.

Cisco is the market's dominant leader. But buyers have other options depending on which products they need from each category, notes Shin Umeda, an analyst with Dell'Oro Group.

"This is a technology-based industry, so products tend to change rapidly," he said. "Many competitors don't have the breadth of Cisco, but they can still compete in certain technologies."

3. Climate

The networking market has entered an era of consolidation as vendors seek out an advantage. For instance, 3Com COMS is a former highflier that's working on a comeback through a joint venture with Huawei Technologies of China. 3Com bought Huawei's business for enterprise routers and switches so Huawei could focus on its core carrier gear.

In just five years, 3Com has risen to market parity with Cisco in China, according to Ron Sege, 3Com's chief operating officer. This month, 3Com launched its new H3C switches -- short for Huawei-3Com -- across Asia, Europe and Latin America. The growing market competition in China is "very interesting" because most companies there are only building out their networks now, Sege says.

"Our strategy is to be successful in China and leverage that strength in China to the rest of the world," he said. "I think there's a tremendous opportunity for us."

3Com is trying to emulate Cisco as a "one-stop shop" for its customers, according to Jay Zager, the CFO of 3Com.

"We offer our customers a value proposition with a full set of products and solutions," Zager said. "All the others have to form some partnerships to provide a complete offering."

4. Technology

The most pressing issue for data center managers today is doing more with less, while curbing energy costs and carbon emissions in the process. They're trying to squeeze more out of fewer data centers by centralizing them using technologies such as virtualization and cloud computing.

That means more computing resources will be remote, rather than on-site, transmitting information back and forth over networks, says Eric Wolford, chief executive of Riverbed Technology RVBD. Products from Riverbed improve the speed and performance of wide area networks.

"We see a major trend toward data center consolidation and virtualization," Wolford said. "This massive industry trend is wind in our sails because it increases the distance between end users and their data."

5. Outlook

The deluge of digital information will continue to fuel demand for bandwidth. The question is, can network gear buyers afford to keep up.

Upside: The Internet continues to change the world. An increasingly networked planet will put new demands on carrier loads and require ever more reliable networks.

Risks: If the worldwide recession lingers too long, there will be no escaping the downward draft for all tech companies.

Nortel Networks NORT just filed for bankruptcy in January. Other network gear makers could see extended delays of future purchases as clients put off moving to next-generation systems.

"There are no safe houses now," says analyst Umeda. "The global economic problem is very pervasive."

Unknown lawbreakers have set as many as four busses on fire in different areas of metropolis burning to death a woman while a person was shot dead in an another incident of indiscriminate firing, Geo news reported late on Friday.

According to details, at least four busses have been torched by unidentified miscreants in separate places including Gulistan-e-Johar, Garden, Risala Road, near Metrological office and others.

As per Cheepa welfare sources, the workers found a dead body of a woman from a burnt vehicle while her kid, a minor boy, received burnt injures.

Meanwhile, firefighting sources have confirmed torching of three busses in various areas while in addition to this, anonymous miscreants have also gunned down a person in block 16 of Gulistan-e-Johar area, sources maintained.

While the project is still quite early in development, it seems to be taking the form of a streamlined extension system, allowing web developers to introduce new features to the Firefox browser using web-based tools and requiring only a minimal amount of effort on the user’s part.

Firefox extensions have long been one of the best parts of the browser, allowing users to add and remove features to suit their needs. But while the user experience of installing these has been relatively straightforward, it still requires a browser reboot, which can be frustrating when you’re in the middle of something. With Jetpack, this isn’t an issue - you click install and you’re done, with the new widget or application installed a few seconds later.

Jetpack is being described as “an exploration in using Web technologies to enhance the browser (e.g. HTML, CSS and Javascript), with the goal of allowing anyone who can build a Web site to participate in making the Web a better place to work, communicate and play.” In other words, if you know how to develop for the web, you should be able to build a Jetpack app. Developers can write code using Mozilla’s web-based Bespin environment and the popular Firebug extension. For an idea of how easy it is to build these applications, check out the video below.

At this point there aren’t many demo apps available, but you can try them out for yourself by going to the Jetpack homepage and installing the Jetpack 0.1 extension (you’ll have to reboot your browser to get it working). From there you can find demos here and here, with available applications including a weather forecaster, Delicious Notifier, and an Ad blocker (there’s also an app that will mix up the images seen in your open browser tabs, if you’re looking for something truly useless).

Because Jetpack is still in very early stages it’s tough to tell just how powerful it will eventually become, and if it could ever replace the current extension model. Looking beyond traditional extensions, the new project could potentially allow trusted websites to customize the browser experience on a site-by-site basis, which could prove quite useful (or annoying, depending how it works out).

1. Spend smarter

You may have to spend less on marketing. Not because marketing should be cut first or most (it most certainly should not), but because your company may cut budgets across the board. In fact, by showing how you intend to spend smarter, you will make it easier to fight for your resources (see below).

By "spend smarter" I mean create a clear-cut justification for the investment. While you won't always be able to measure the ROI (this is marketing, after all), you can have your people create a compelling business case for each investment. Then, when it comes time to justify the investment, you will have established sound business reasoning behind it. And that's what the CEO and CFO need to see in a recession.

2. Double-down on your current customers

Sure it's more fun to get new customers, but it's more practical in a downturn to provide more value (and get more in return) from your current customers.

When customers make decisions in a downturn, they're more likely to go with a more trusted source. If they're more likely to go with you, then you want to make it easier and more obvious to them to go with you. Market to them. Enable your sales teams to be more effective with them. Ask current customers what they need from you.

Care for them, and they will be even more likely to stick with you if the going gets tough.

3. Outsmart your competitors

You have an opportunity in a downturn to win market share from your competitors. If you pay close attention to what's happening in your target markets and how customers are reacting to a recession, you can act early and often with changes in product (if you can change it quickly), price, and positioning (especially as perceived needs change).

For example, in the last technology downturn, software companies became very creative in their pricing schema, creating many variations of software as a service (SaaS) that enabled them to sell when their competitors were stuck in an old paradigm.

4. Invest in growing market segments

In every downturn there are market segments that grow faster than others. It's your job as a marketer to help your company see and understand these market segments, and determine whether you can quickly win business in those fast-growing market segments.

These may be segments you're already selling to, but not particularly focused on; or they may represent new segments—and new opportunities for your company. At the same time, you will want to reduce your investments in the segments that will get hit the most in the downturn.

5. Fight for your resources

I've argued that it's marketing's responsibility to drive strategic issues (see CMOs as True Leaders). In a recession, this becomes even more important.

Knee-jerk reactions of companies where the CMO is not deeply involved in strategy are often to cut budgets and people in marketing disproportionately. This results in marketing's playing a less important role, and an extremely inefficient pendulum-swing of dollars and people that result in being caught flat-footed and losing out to competitors very shortly after the cuts are made.

It's marketing's responsibility to fight for its resources, and doing the four items above will help you win that battle.

Google Adds Message Translation To Gmail!

Gmail Labs just added another nifty tool to its suite of features—message translation. Using Google Translate, Gmail will help you translate any message that you receive in another language into a language you can understand. The feature can be used for 41 languages.

Gmail will suggest a language to translate the message to, and also gives you the option to translate the message to different language.

If your email conversation includes Gmail users, you can have entire conversation in multiple languages with each participant reading the messages in whatever language is most comfortable for them. Google admits that Google Translate doesn’t always get the perfect translation but the feature is helpful to get the general idea of the content of an email.

Jeff Chin, product manager for Google Translate, said that this feature, like many others rolled out of Gmail Labs, uses the “power of cloud computing” to scale this tool to all Gmail users without having to buy servers, install software, or write code that needs to be integrated into each application. Chin adds that the cloud has helped Google Translate process billions of words in several languages to all users. Plus, he says that the application is able to quickly add new languages and updates to users quickly and efficiently.

Tesla Worth More Than Half A Billion Dollars After Daimler Investment

Daimler got that 10% stake in Tesla that was announced today for $50 million, says a source with knowledge of the deal. They’ve actually taken 9% (they announced “nearly 10 percent” and the post money valuation is $550 million. Our source also says that Tesla’s application for $350 million in federal loans has been informally approved and will also be announced shortly.

That’s not too shabby for a company that was down to just $9 million in cash late last year. The company has also recently said that 1,000 preorders for the new Model S sedan have been received. Over 500 were reserved in the first week after it was unveiled.

Tesla Motors is a company looking to produce a high-performance electric sports car, and is backed by a number of high-profile investors.

1 - First Important Lesson - Cleaning Lady.

During my second month of college, our professor
gave us a pop quiz. I was a conscientious student
and had breezed through the questions until I read
the last one:

'What is the first name of the woman who cleans the school?'

Surely this was some kind of joke. I had seen the
cleaning woman several times.. She was tall,
dark-haired and in her 50's, but how would I know her name?

I handed in my paper, leaving the last question
blank. Just before class ended, one student asked if
the last question would count toward our quiz grade.

'Absolutely,' said the professor.. 'In your careers
you will meet many people. All are significant. They
deserve your attention and care, even if all you do
is smile and say 'hello.'

I've never forgotten that lesson. I also learned her
name was Dorothy.

2. - Second Important Lesson - Pickup in the Rain

One night, at 11:30 p.m., an older African American
woman was standing on the side of an Alabama highway
trying to endure a lashing rainstorm. Her car had
broken down and she desperately needed a ride.
Soaking wet, she decided to flag down the next car.
A young white man stopped to help her, generally
unheard of in those conflict-filled 60s.. The man
took her to safety, helped her get assistance and
put her into a taxicab.

She seemed to be in a big hurry, but wrote down his
address and thanked him. Seven days went by and a
knock came on the man's door. To his surprise, a
giant console color TV was delivered to his home. A
special note was attached..

It read:
'Thank you so much for assisting me on the highway
the other night. The rain drenched not only my
clothes, but also my spirits. Then you came along.
Because of you, I was able to make it to my dying
husband's bedside just before he passed away... God
bless you for helping me and unselfishly serving
others.'

3 - Third Important Lesson - Always remember those who serve.

In the days when an ice cream sundae cost much less,
a 10-year-old boy entered a hotel coffee shop and
sat at a table. A waitress put a glass of water in front of him.

'How much is an ice cream sundae?' he asked.

'Fifty cents,' replied the waitress.

The little boy pulled is hand out of his pocket and
studied the coins in it.

'Well, how much is a plain dish of ice cream?' he inquired.

By now more people were waiting for a table and the
waitress was growing impatient.

'Thirty-five cents,' she brusquely replied.

The little boy again counted his coins.

'I'll have the plain ice cream,' he said.

The waitress brought the ice cream, put the bill on
the table and walked away. The boy finished the ice
cream, paid the cashier and left. When the waitress
came back, she began to cry as she wiped down the
table. There, placed neatly beside the empty dish,

were two nickels and five pennies..

You see, he couldn't have the sundae, because he had /DIV>
to have enough left to leave her a tip.

4 - Fourth Important Lesson. - The obstacle in Our Path.

In ancient times, a King had a boulder placed on a
roadway. Then he hid himself and watched to see if
anyone would remove the huge rock. Some of the
king's wealthiest merchants and courtiers came by
and simply walked around it. Many loudly blamed the
King for not keeping the roads clear, but none did anything about getting the stone out of the way.

Then a peasant came along carrying a load of
vegetables. Upon approaching the boulder, the
peasant laid down his burden and tried to move the
stone to the side of the road. After much pushing
and straining, he finally succeeded. After the
peasant picked up his load of vegetables, he noticed
a purse lying in the road where the boulder had
been. The purse contained many gold coins and a note
from the King indicating that the gold was for the
person who removed the boulder from the roadway. The
peasant learned what many of us never understand!

Every obstacle presents an opportunity to improve our condition.

5 - Fifth Important Lesson - Giving When it Counts...

Many years ago, when I worked as a volunteer at a
hospital, I got to know a little girl named Liz who
was suffering from a rare & serious disease. Her only
chance of recovery appeared to be a blood
transfusion from her 5-year old brother, who had
miraculously survived the same disease and had
developed the antibodies needed to combat the
illness. The doctor explained the situation to her
little brother, and asked the little boy if he would
be willing to give his blood to his sister.

I saw him hesitate for only a moment before taking a
deep breath and saying, 'Yes I'll do it if it will
save her.' As the transfusion progressed, he lay in
bed next to his sister and smiled, as we all did,
seeing the color returning to her cheek. Then his
face grew pale and his smile faded.

He looked up at the doctor and asked with a
trembling voice, 'Will I start to die right away?'.

Being young, the little boy had misunderstood the
doctor; he thought he was going to have to give his
sister ALL of his blood in order to save her but he had chosen to save her anyway.

Motorola Deploys Location Based Services for NTT DoCoMo

Motorola has announced that Japan's NTT DoCoMo will deploy its Mobile Advanced Location System (MALS) to power DoCoMo's new location based services. Motorola MALS is compliant with the Open Mobile Alliance (OMA) Secure User Plane Location (SUPL) 1.0 standard, allowing faster and more accurate detection of the position of DoCoMo's users, even when using base stations of overseas carriers in the roaming areas.

By using new location based services with handsets supporting SUPL, DoCoMo's users not only can use the services in Japan, but more importantly, they can utilize other services like digital maps, store locations and navigation assistance while traveling overseas. The services also make many new applications possible, such as pedestrian navigation, to bring highly personalized mobile experiences to users.

"It is DoCoMo's priority to enable great convenience for our customers," said Mitsunobu Komori, managing executive vice president, chief technical officer, member of the Board of Directors and managing director of the R&D Center at NTT DoCoMo. "The deployment of Motorola Mobile Advanced Location System further reinforces our commitment to this effort. Motorola's system has a proven track record in the international market and provides us with the suitable solution for rapid and efficient service deployment. The system has been tested and proven to deliver excellent performance in obtaining position data and detecting location."

Motorola MALS detects the user's location by calculating reference positions provided by mobile networks and GPS satellites. The system is supported by the Gateway Mobile Location Center (GMLC), which makes use of Assisted-GPS (A-GPS) to reduce measuring time and improve accuracy compared to the conventional standalone GPS.

Vodafone Net Profits Drops on Impairment Charges

Vodafone has reported a 15.6% rise in full year revenues to reach £41.02 billion (US$62.47 billion), although profits dropped to £3.08 billion (US$4.7 billion) from £6.76 billion (US$10.3 billion) a year ago, largely due to a write down of the Spanish and Turkish networks. Ignoring the impairment charges, the groups adjusted operating profit was up 16.7% to £11.8 billion. Group EBITDA up 10.0% to £14.5 billion.

Net debt has increased to £34 billion (US$51.8 billion), primarily as a result of foreign currency movements. The company recorded impairment losses in relation to operations in Spain (£3.4 billion), Turkey (£2.25 billion) and Ghana (£250 million).

The proportionate mobile customer base stood at 303 million at 31 March 2009.

Vittorio Colao, Chief Executive, commented: "These results demonstrate the impact of the early actions we took to address the current economic conditions and highlight the benefits of our geographic diversity. The business continues to generate cash strongly and we have made good progress in implementing the strategy announced in November."

As expected, the company has accelerated its £1 billion cost reduction programme. In the 2009 financial year, the firm achieved approximately £200 million of cost savings, which were partially offset by restructuring charges. Vodafone now intends to deliver at least 65% of the total programme in the 2010 financial year, ahead of plan.

The company also benefited by £767 million following the resolution of long standing tax issues relating to the Group’s acquisition and subsequent restructuring of the Mannesmann Group.

Revenue in Europe declined by 2.1% on an organic basis, as benefits from new tariffs and promotions and a strong performance in data revenue were more than offset by the impact of the deteriorating European economy on voice and messaging revenue, including from roaming, usage growth, ongoing competitive pricing pressures and lower termination rates.

In Africa and Central Europe, revenue grew by 3.9% on an organic basis, with double digit revenue growth in Vodacom being offset by weakening trends in Turkey and Romania. Benefits from the increase in the average customer base were partially offset by both weaker economic conditions in the more mature markets in Central Europe and the impact of termination rate cuts.

In Asia Pacific and Middle East, revenue grew by 19% on a pro forma basis including India, a result of the rise in the average customer base, although revenue growth has slowed, primarily as a result of stronger competition coupled with maturing market conditions.

Look ahead, the company expects revenues and adjusted operating profits for 2009/10 to be flat, in line with the 2008/9 results, although free cash flow is expected to rise. The company also warned that it expects prospects for its Turkish network to be "challenging".

How to Get the Most Battery Life from Your Computer

Buy an energy-efficient laptop. The size and type of portable computer have a big effect on your battery life; opting for a smaller screen and a solid-state drive will save power. Check out the power ratings when buying a new machine; and if you can get an upgrade on your battery, it’s worth the splurge.

Use your computer’s power-saving settings. Whether you’re on a PC or a Mac, your computer should come with energy-saving settings that will dim your screen after a certain period of inactivity and turn off your screen and hard drives after a longer period. You can make the length of time your computer stays on while inactive even shorter to conserve more power, too.

Shut off devices and programs you don’t need. The more your computer is doing, the more power it uses. Shut down any programs that you aren’t actively using or that aren’t absolutely essential, and try using only one application at a time. This also goes for wireless, Bluetooth, speakers, and any USB devices; even that USB mouse draws power. CD/DVD drives also use a lot of juice, so try to run all programs off your hard drive, and don’t keep a disc in the drive because your computer will try to read it every time it starts up.

Go easy on your display. A big, bright, crisp display isn’t always a necessity. If you can, dim your screen and lower its resolution to save power. And don’t use a graphic screen saver; just let it go dark.

Turn off scheduled tasks. Unless you’re working on something you’re very worried about losing, turn off autosave functions. Also, stop any programs from automatically opening, such as autoupdate and virus-scanning programs, and close any nonessential programs you may have open on startup.

Keep your computer at a comfortable temperature. Extreme heat and cold will affect your battery’s performance. When it’s above 80 degrees, your battery will discharge more quickly, and when it’s cold your battery won’t charge well. It’s best to work at room temperature. Also, make sure your computer doesn’t overheat (the fan uses a lot of power) by using a cooling mat, keeping vents clean, and avoiding leaving it on soft surfaces.

Take care of your battery. Though most newer laptops run on lithium-ion batteries, which don’t suffer the “memory effect” that older nickel-based batteries did, you should still fully charge it before your first nonsocket use, and you should let it discharge nearly completely every once in a while so your computer can recalibrate its minutes-left-for-computing clock. You should also make sure the battery contacts are clean; if they’re not, clean them with some rubbing alcohol on a cloth.

Use sleep and hibernate modes. Don’t just leave your computer idle when it’s not plugged in. If you’re stepping away for a short time, use your PC’s sleep mode; if you’ll be away for a longer time, use hibernate, which draws even less power, though your computer will take a little longer to wake up. Some laptops, such as Macs, will automatically enter sleep mode when you close the lid.

"Concentration is the Most Important Intellectual Habit of Man."

Not one person in ten thousand can really concentrate. Some realize that they do not know how—others drift along the line of least resistance and let their minds vegetate, apparently never suspecting their weakness or realizing that they are an utter failure at concentration. To Cori-centre—bringing all your mental force and faculties to bear steadily on a given center with-out deviation from that exact point—whipping into line all wandering fancies—stray ideas or thoughts that go off on a tangent—to hold steadily all your power on the central thing under consideration without an instant of wavering—that is Concentration.

This ONE THING I Do:

A difficult thing to do and very few minds can do it. Shortest definition of concentration on record is, “This one thing I do," short, but tremendously significant.

AIDS TO CONCENTRATION:

These aids will do more than help you to follow a memory course; they deal with your daily work. Concentration applies to all the activities of life. It should be established as a life habit. Make a business of doing one thing at a time with all your soul. There is time enough for everything in the course of a day if we do but one thing at a time, but there is not time enough in a year if we try to do two things at a time.

PERIODICAL RELAXATION:

It may seem paradoxical that the first aid to better concentration refers to relaxation. But I have observed that some of the most intense intellects fail in their concentration because they never relax. Failure to let go between efforts is their chief stumbling block. They keep them-selves tense, nervous, " keyed-up " all the time, even when there is no need for it, thereby wasting nervous energy. They find it very difficult to " let go "—to relieve the high-tension by a little natural, wholesome relaxation.

MENTAL FREEDOM:

The next step is to free the mind. Nothing is of greater aid to concentration. In fact, unless you are able to do this, concentration is impossible. When. harassed by the three devils, hurry, worry, and fear, the mind never has a fair chance to center on anything. " Worry generates a poison at the roots of memory." But in your period of relaxation, you have an excellent opportunity to free the mind—now is your chance to eliminate all mental handicaps and get ready for the race. Not only hurry, worry, and fear must be thrown overboard, but anything and everything that troubles you and disturbs your serenity and your peace of mind. Out they go ! You should not indulge in day-dreaming, either, or mental drifting. Clear the mental horizon; give yourself a clean slate to write upon when your hour of concentration comes. And when it comes, if you have availed yourself of these first two aids I have given, you will be, possessed of that rare thing, mental poise.

THE PROPER ENVIRONMENT

In order to keep it, utilize the third aid: right conditions. Now, it is true that a trained mind can concentrate under any conditions—in the roar and din of .crowded cities or the busy hum of traffic—in the midst of telephone calls or a thousand and one other interruptions. I have seen men write on a crowded street car perfectly oblivious to the people about them, not even hearing their own stations when called. But these men were already masters of concentration, and I am addressing my remarks to those who have not yet learned how to concentrate. Therefore, it is only a matter of common-sense to make conditions as favorable as possible. Give your mind a fair chance. Concentration is difficult enough, even under the best conditions. I would suggest that you seek a quiet place free from all distractions (and noise is a terrible distractor), a place free from all interruptions which may break your train of thought (and a telephone is a terrible interruptor), a place where you can be alone, free from all outside influences (and a friend who " must drops in " is a terrible outside influence).

Atmosphere--environment—these things differ with the individual—it's all in the mind. One man may do his best work seated in a luxurious chair in his beautiful and artistic study--another may reach his highest plane of creative thinking while sitting under a lone pine-tree on the crest of a hill. Choose your own place for concentration, but remember that solitude has always been, in all the history of mental achievement, a requisite for great work.

A DEFINITE SCHEDULE:

The fourth aid to concentration is a very practical one: make a daily schedule. In the first place, such a schedule saves an inconceivable amount of time.

It has been demonstrated in efficiency tests over and over again that time and energy are lost not so much on the operation itself as in passing from one operation to another. So in our mental operations, failure to move smoothly from one thing to another results in confusion. And when confusion comes, concentration goes. A definite daily schedule is a wonderful aid in keeping the mind on the right track. It often proves to be the salvation of those who have been unable to concentrate. Try it.

A date !
After 21 years of marriage, my wife wanted me to take another woman out to dinner and a movie.

She said I love you but I know this other woman loves you and would love to spend some time with you.

The other woman that my wife wanted me to visit was my MOTHER, who has been a widow for 19 years, but the demands of my work and my three children had made it possible to visit her only occasionally.

That night I called to invite her to go out for dinner and a movie.

"What's wrong, are you well," she asked? My mother is the type of woman who suspects that a late night call or a surprise invitation is a sign of bad news.

"I thought that it would be pleasant to be with you," I responded. "Just the two of us."

She thought about it for a moment, and then said, "I would like that very much."

That Friday after work, as I drove over to pick her up I was a bit nervous. When I arrived at her house, I noticed that she, too, seemed to be nervous about our date. She waited in the door with her coat on. She had curled her hair and was wearing the dress that she had worn to celebrate her last wedding anniversary.

She smiled from a face that was as radiant as an angel's.

"I told my friends that I was going to go out with my son, and they were impressed, "she said, as she got into the car. "They can't wait to hear about our meeting".

We went to a restaurant that, although not elegant, was very nice and cozy. My mother took my arm as if she were the First Lady. After we sat down,

I had to read the menu. Large print. Half way through the entries, I lifted my eyes and saw Mom sitting there staring at me. A nostalgic smile was on her lips.

"It was I who used to have to read the menu when you were small," she said.

"Then it's time that you relax and let me return the favor," I responded.

During the dinner, we had an agreeable conversation - nothing extraordinary, but catching up on recent events of each other's life. We talked so much that we missed the movie.

As we arrived at her house later, she said, "I'll go out with you again, but only if you let me invite you." I agreed.

"How was your dinner date?" asked my wife when I got home. "Very nice. Much more so than I could have imagined," I answered.

A few days later, my mother died of a massive heart attack. It happened so suddenly that I did to do anything for her.

Some time later, I received an envelope with a copy of a restaurant receipt from the same place mother and I had dined.

An attached note said: "I paid this bill in advance. I wasn't sure that I could be there; but nevertheless, I paid for two plates - one for you and the other for your wife. You will never know what that night meant for me. I love you, son."

At that moment, I understood the importance of saying in time: "I LOVE YOU!" and to give our loved ones the time that they deserve.

Nothing in life is more important than God and your family. Give them the time they deserve, because these things cannot be put off till "some other time."

Discover the 90/10 Principle.

It will change your life (at least the way you react to situations).
What is this principle? 10% of life is made up of what happens to you. 90% of life is decided by how you react.

What does this mean? We really have no control over 10% of what happens to us.
We cannot stop the car from breaking down. The plane will be late arriving, which throws our whole schedule off. A driver may cut us off in traffic.
We have no control over this 10%. The other 90% is different. You determine the other 90%.

How? ……….By your reaction.

You cannot control a red light. but you can control your reaction. Don't let people fool you; YOU can control how you react.

Let's use an example.

You are eating breakfast with your family. Your daughter knocks over a cup of coffee onto your business shirt. You have no control over what just happened.
What happens next will be determined by how you react.
You curse.
You harshly scold your daughter for knocking the cup over. She breaks down in tears. After scolding her, you turn to your spouse and criticize her for placing the cup too close to the edge of the table. A short verbal battle follows. You storm upstairs and change your shirt. Back downstairs, you find your daughter has been too busy crying to finish breakfast and get ready for school. She misses the bus.
Your spouse must leave immediately for work. You rush to the car and drive your daughter to school. Because you are late, you drive 40 miles an hour in a 30 mph speed limit.

After a 15-minute delay and throwing $60 traffic fine away, you arrive at school. Your daughter runs into the building without saying goodbye. After arriving at the office 20 minutes late, you find you forgot your briefcase. Your day has started terrible. As it continues, it seems to get worse and worse. You look forward to coming home.

When you arrive home, you find small wedge in your relationship with your spouse and daughter.

Why? …. Because of how you reacted in the morning.
Why did you have a bad day?
A) Did the coffee cause it?
B) Did your daughter cause it?
C) Did the policeman cause it?
D) Did you cause it?
The answer is “D".

You had no control over what happened with the coffee. How you reacted in those 5 seconds is what caused your bad day.

Here is what could have and should have happened.

Coffee splashes over you. Your daughter is about to cry. You gently say, "Its ok honey, you just need to be more careful next time". Grabbing a towel you rush upstairs. After grabbing a new shirt and your briefcase, you come back down in time to look through the window and see your child getting on the bus. She turns and waves. You arrive 5 minutes early and cheerfully greet the staff. Your boss comments on how good the day you are having.

Notice the difference?

Two different scenarios. Both started the same. Both ended different.

Why?

Because of how you REACTED.

You really do not have any control over 10% of what happens. The other 90% was determined by your reaction.

Here are some ways to apply the 90/10 principle. If someone says something negative about you, don't be a sponge. Let the attack roll off like water on glass. You don't have to let the negative comment affect you!

React properly and it will not ruin your day. A wrong reaction could result in losing a friend, being fired, getting stressed out etc.

How do you react if someone cuts you off in traffic? Do you lose your temper? Pound on the steering wheel? A friend of mine had the steering wheel fall off) Do you curse? Does your blood pressure skyrocket? Do you try and bump them?
WHO CARES if you arrive ten seconds later at work? Why let the cars ruin your drive?
Remember the 90/10 principle, and do not worry about it.
You are told you lost your job.

Why lose sleep and get irritated? It will work out. Use your worrying energy and time into finding another job.

The plane is late; it is going to mangle your schedule for the day. Why take outpour frustration on the flight attendant? She has no control over what is going on.
Use your time to study, get to know the other passenger. Why get stressed out? It will just make things worse.

Now you know the 90-10 principle. Apply it and you will be amazed at the results. You will lose nothing if you try it. The 90-10 principle is incredible. Very few know and apply this principle.

The result?

Millions of people are suffering from undeserved stress, trials, problems and heartache. We all must understand and apply the 90/10 principle.

It CAN change your life!!!

My Car Got Stolen

On Thursday 12th Febuary 2009.

My new Car got stolen from the parking lot in the office.

I parked my car till 6:15 Pm and went up in the office to start working .....

At 10:30 pm one of my colleague stepped into office and told me that my Car is not there in Parking Lot.

I was literally shocked.. The Car was recently given to me by my Company.

The point is till when this all will continue, Why do people steal at the first place?

Today some of my mates forced me to go with them to an area of Karachi where I guess I have never been before..... Lasbella

We had Chicken Karahi and I never had such a good taste when it comes to Karahi....

Though the area was weird as one one side of the road they were again and again playing Benazir's last speech... and one side traffic is going and going on.. the seating was on Chapai / Manjhi and that was very uncomfortable but when food arrive every one forgot whats going on and what is uncomfortable and all of the friends including me started eating chicken karahi :)

Automatic Number Identification: 1. A service feature in which the directory number or equipment number of a calling station is automatically obtained. Note: ANI is used in message accounting. 2. The code that provides the billing number of the line or trunk that originated a call. 3. A system that identifies the billing account for a call. For 911 systems, the ANI identifies the calling party and may be used as a call back number.

Buffer Box

a device that temporarily stores data, usually between two devices with different data speeds; sends data out at a speed that the slower machine can handle. Recommended to prevent CDR loss on a call accounting system (see CDR).

Call Accounting System

A computer, a magnetic storage device (floppy or hard disk), software and some mechanical method of attaching itself to a telephone system. A call accounting system is used to record information about telephone calls, organize that information and prepare reports - printed or to disk. The information it captures about phone calls typically includes from which extension the call is coming, which number it is calling (local or long distance), which circuit is used for the call (WATs, MCI, etc), when the call started, how long it lasted, for what purpose the call was made (client or project, etc). CDR

Centrex

LAN

Parallel Port

an output port on a PC that transmits data eight bits (one byte) at a time.

Partially Dedicated Access

PBX

A PBX (private branch exchange) is a telephone system within an enterprise that switches calls between enterprise users on local lines while allowing all users to share a certain number of external phone lines. The main purpose of a PBX is to save the cost of requiring a line for each user to the telephone company's central office.

The PBX is owned and operated by the enterprise rather than the telephone company (which may be a supplier or service provider, however). Private branch exchanges used analog technology originally. Today, PBXs use digital technology (digital signals are converted to analog for outside calls on the local loop using plain old telephone service).

A PBX includes:

Telephone trunk (multiple phone) lines that terminate at the PBX

PMS

Property Management System - A software program and computer that controls all guest billing and guest services functions in a hotel. In short, the guts of a hotel's computer system. Some telephone systems have a PMS interface which allows various degrees of integration between the telephone system and the hotel's computer systems. For example, voicemail could be administered throught the Hotel's Property Management System.

Polling

1. Network control in which the control station invites tributary stations to transmit in the sequence specified by the control station. 2. In point-to-point or multipoint communication, the process whereby stations are invited one at a time to transmit. 3. Sequential interrogation of devices for various purposes, such as avoiding contention, determining operational status, or determining readiness to send or receive data.

PSTN

Public Switched Telephone Network - worldwide voice telephone network accessible to anyone with a phone and access privileges.

RAM

Random Access Memory - The primary memory in a computer. The "random access" part of its name comes from the fact that the next "bit" of information in RAM can be located - no matter where it is - in an equal amount of time. This means that access to and from RAM memory is extraordinarily fast. By contraast, other storage media (magnetic tape) store information serially, one bit after another. Therefore you have to search for them and your search time will depend on how from from the bit you're searching for you are. Floppy disks are faster than magnetic tape because their information is readily at hand, though the read/write head will have to search for it. Hard disks are even faster because there are multiple heads and because the disks spin faster and everything moves faster. RAM memory is the fastest of all.

Rate Table

a database containing cost of a call based on area code and time of day.

Real time

1. The actual time during which a physical process occurs. 2. Pertaining to the performance of a computation during the actual time that the related physical process occurs, in order that results of the computation can be used in guiding the physical process.

Redundancy

part of a message that can safely be omitted/deleted without ruining the integrity of a message; backup systems in case of main system failure.

Router

Serial Port

an input/output port of a PC that transmits data one bit at a time.

SMDR

station message-detail recording - A record of all calls originated or received by a switching system. Note: SMDRs are usually generated by a computer.

Soft PBX

SQL

Structured Query Language - commonly used with database servers; powerful language used for the creation, maintenance and viewing of databases.

Switch

a mechanical or electronic device that opens or closes circuits, completes or breaks an electrical path or selects paths or circuits. Switches with more than two ports are able to route traffic.

Switched Access

long distance carrier access method in which a non-local call is carried by a local exchange carrier via a Central Office trunk for the first and last part of the call's journey and on the long distance carrier's network only for the middle part of the journey. Also called "switched to switched" or "off-net to off-net."

T-1 Trunk Level 1 -

dedicated phone connection with a total signaling speed of 1,544 Mbps; a T-1 is made of 24 channels which can be split to carry voice or data, each carrying 64K bits per second.

TCP/IP

Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol - networking protocol used to connect network hosts, even with computers with very different hardware architectures and operating systems; network protocol of the Internet.

Telecommunications system

A collection of individual communications networks, transmission systems, relay stations, tributary stations, and data terminal equipment (DTE) usually capable of interconnection and interoperation to form an integrated whole. Note: The components of a communications system serve a common purpose, are technically compatible, use common procedures, respond to controls, and operate in unison.

Telemanagement

Toll Fraud

Trunk Group

a group of trunks with essentially the same characteristics that run between the same two geographic points.

Trunk

a communication channel between two switching systems; usually refers to large bandwidth phone channels between switching systems that handle mass quantities of voice and data simultaneously.

VoFR

Voice over Frame Relay - one of two main standards regarding voice transmissions over data networks; other standard is H.323 (see H.323).

VoIP

Voice over Internet Protocol - telephone calls (voice) bypass the typical public-switched telephone network and transmit voice calls over a private network (the same network that carries web, e-mail and data traffic).

WAN

Wide Area Network - data communications network that extends a LAN outside its geographic area, over common carrier lines, to link other LANs (see LAN).

WATS

WATS (wide-area telephone service) is a specialized form of fixed-rate long-distance telecommunication service. WATS lines are commonly used by businesses and government agencies. Some individuals and small corporations also have WATS subscriptions.

There are three types of WATS lines: IN-WATS (for incoming calls), OUT-WATS (for outgoing calls), or a combination of both services. IN-WATS lines have telephone numbers with certain area codes reserved expressly for that purpose, such as 800, 888, or 877. People calling these numbers are not charged a long-distance toll. Instead, the recipient (subscriber) is charged a fixed monthly rate up to a certain number of hours of usage. Beyond the limit, an additional toll is imposed. OUT-WATS lines are, in effect, fixed-rate long-distance subscriptions.

With most WATS lines, calling-zone restrictions apply. For example, it might not be possible to make or accept WATS calls to or from locations within the state where the subscriber is located, or to or from locations outside the country where the subscriber is located.

Porting a number from Warid to Mobilink seems to be my greatest ever mistake I have ever done.

I ported my number to Mobilink though It was quite strange for them as well as this might be the first time that some one was coming to mobilink rather then going away from them.

Now I cannot recive SMS from Telenor and a few othernetworks in Pakistan

I cannot complain as i don't want the account manager to be fired and it seems he is taking too much time to get it fixed.

Yesterday I sent him an email asking bhai what happened? did you got my issue fixed. He replied I thought it would be fixed .. I asked did u follow up the case with the technical department you launched the complain with, he said we don't do this... we just raised the issue and that is it.

I clapped for him and did some nice stuff and requested him sir can you please start following up with customer and with your technical department, Specially in my case and he said sir I will try... now let's see until when he will get this fixed.

I have decided, since I am the first victim of porting in Pakistan, let's try to port to all the networks :)

I was having lot f mix expectation and finally i ordered them.

Now; I told the chef that this is my first time I am eating Sushi ... he suggested me Maki Roll, I said go ahead...

Finally; I had the Maki Roll with the green sauce and it was superb..

One day while buying eggs he notices that the price has risen to 72 cents. The next time he buys groceries, eggs are 76 cents a dozen.

When asked to explain the price of eggs the store owner says, "The price has gone up and I have to raise my price accordingly”. This store buys 100 dozen eggs a day. He checked around for a better price and all the distributors have raised their prices. The distributors have begun to buy from the huge egg farms. The small egg farms have been driven out of business. The huge egg farms sell 100,000 dozen eggs a day to distributors. With no competition, they can set the price as they see fit. The distributors then have to raise their prices to t he grocery stores. And on and on and on.

As the man kept buying eggs the price kept going up. He saw the big egg trucks delivering 100 dozen eggs each day. Nothing changed there. He checked out the huge egg farms and found they were selling 100,000 dozen eggs to the distributors daily. Nothing had changed but the price of eggs.

Then week before Thanksgiving the price of eggs shot up to $1.00 a dozen. Again he asked the grocery owner why and was told, "Cakes and baking for the holiday". The huge egg farmers know there will be a lot of baking going on and more eggs will be used. Hence, the price of eggs goes up. Expect the same thing at Christmas and other times when family cooking, baking, etc. happen.

This pattern continues until the price of eggs is 2.00 a dozen. The man says, “There must be something we can do about the price of eggs".

He starts talking to all the people in his town and they decide to stop buying eggs. This didn't work because everyone needed eggs.

Finally, the man suggested only buying what you need. He ate 2 eggs a day. On the way home from work he would stop at the grocery and buy two eggs. Everyone in town Started buying 2 or 3 eggs a day.

The grocery store owner began complaining that he had too many eggs in his cooler. He told the distributor that he didn't need any eggs. Maybe wouldn't need any all week.

The distributor had eggs filing up at his warehouse. He told the huge egg farms that he Didn’t have any room for eggs would not need any for at least two weeks.

At the egg farm, the chickens just kept on laying eggs. To relieve the pressure, the huge egg farm told the distributor that they could buy the eggs at a lower price.

The distributor said, “I don't have the room for the eggs even if they were free". The distributor told the grocery store owner that he would lower the price of the eggs if the store would start buying again. The grocery store owner said, “I don't have room for more eggs. The customers are only buying 2 or 3 eggs at a time. Now if you were to drop the price of eggs back down to the original price, the customers would start buying by the dozen again".

The distributors sent that proposal to the huge egg farmers but the egg farmers liked the price they were getting for their eggs but, those chickens just kept on laying. Finally, the egg farmers lowered the price of their eggs. But only a few cents.

The customers still bought 2 or 3 eggs at a time. They said, "When the price of eggs gets down to where it was before, we will start buying by the dozen."

Slowly the price of eggs started dropping. The distributors had to slash their prices to make room for the eggs coming from the egg farmers.

The egg farmers cut their prices because the distributors wouldn't buy at a higher price than they were selling eggs for. Anyway, they had full warehouses and wouldn't need eggs for quite a while.

And those chickens kept on laying.

Eventually, the egg farmers cut their prices because they were throwing away eggs they couldn’t sell.

The distributors started buying again because the eggs were priced to where the stores could afford to sell them at the lower price.

And the customers starting buying by the dozen again.

Now, transpose this analogy to the gasoline industry.

What if everyone only bought $10.00 worth of gas each time they pulled to the pump? The dealer's tanks would stay semi full all the time. The dealers wouldn't have room for the gas coming from the huge tank farms. The tank farms wouldn't have room for the gas coming from the refining plants. And the refining plants wouldn't have room for the oil being off loaded from the huge tankers coming from the oil fields.

Just $10.00 each time you buy gas. Don't fill it up. You may have to stop for gas twice a week but, the price should come down.

Think about it.

As an added note...When I buy $10.00 worth of gas that leaves my tank a little under quarter full. The way prices are jumping around, you can buy gas for $2.65 a gallon and then the next morning it can be $2.15. If you have your tank full of $2.65 gas you don't have room for the $2.15 gas. You might not understand the economics of only buying two eggs at a time but, you can't buy cheaper gas if your tank is full of the high priced stuff.

Also, don't buy anything else at the gas station; don't give them any more of your hard earned money than what you spend on gas, until the prices come down..." just think of this concept for a while
