The lion, rats, snake and the honey comb - a beautiful story

Once a man saw in his dream that a lion was chasing him, the man ran to a tree, climbed on to it and sat on a branch. He looked down and saw that the lion was still there waiting for him. The man then looked to his side where the branch he was sitting on was attached to the tree and saw that two rats were circling around and eating the branch. One rat was black and the other one was white. The branch would fall on the ground very soon. The man then looked below again with fear and discovered that a big black snake had come and settled directly under him. The snake opened its mouth right under the man so that he will fall into it. The man then looked up to see if there was anything that he could hold on to. He saw another branch with a honeycomb. Drops of honey were falling from it. The man wanted to taste one of the drops. So, he put his tongue out and tasted one of the fallen drops of honey. The honey was amazing in taste. So, he wanted to taste another drop. As he did, he got lost into the sweetness of the honey. Meanwhile, he forgot about the two rats eating his branch away, the lion on the ground and the snake that is sitting right under him. After a while, he woke up from his sleep.

To get the meaning behind this dream, the man went to a a pious scholar of Islam. The scholar said "The lion you saw is your death. It always chases you and goes where ever you go. The two rats, one black and one white, are the night and the day. Black one is the night and the white one is the day. They circle around, coming one after another, to eat your time as they take you closer to death. The big black snake with a dark mouth is your grave. It's there, just waiting for you to fall into it. The honeycomb is this world and the sweet honey is the luxuries of this world. We like to taste a drop of the luxuries of this world but it's very sweet. Then we taste another drop and yet another. Meanwhile, we get lost into it and we forget about our time, we forget about our death and we forget about our graves."

May ALLAH wake us up from the sleep and save us before its too late (Aamen)!

People say time is money but I deny... Time is some thing more important then money...

The reason I am saying this is because Money can be regained but Time one passes cannot be gained back.

Time passes like highway, road e.t.c. it passes so quickly that you cannot beleive they are passing so quickly.

Always remember! Time goes by and there is nothing you can do....

So better grab your things.. go out and do what you wanna do.. but always remember your boundriess...

One more thing... Not to be a bitter over life's disappointment... learn to let go of the past.. Recognize Every day will not be sunny, when you will find your self lost in life darkness...

Shared grief is half the sorrow, but happiness when shared, is doubled

A great note for all, it will take just 37 seconds to read this and change your thinking


Two men, both seriously ill, occupied the same hospital room. One man was allowed to sit up in his bed for an hour each afternoon to help drain the fluid from his lungs. His bed was next to the room's only window. The other man had to spend all his time flat on his back. The men talked for hours on end. They spoke of their wives and families, their homes, their jobs, their involvement in the military service, where they had been on vacation.


Every afternoon when the man in the bed by the window could sit up, he would pass the time by describing to his roommate all the things he could see outside the window.

The man in the other bed began to live for those one hour periods where his world would be broadened and enlivened by all the activity and color of the world outside.

The window overlooked a park with a lovely lake. Ducks and swans played on the water while children sailed their model boats. Young lovers walked arm in arm amidst flowers of every color and a fine view of the city skyline could be seen in the distance.

As the man by the window described all this in exquisite detail, the man on the other side of the room would close his eyes and imagine the picturesque scene.

One warm afternoon the man by the window described a parade passing by.

Although the other man couldn't hear the band - he could see it in his mind's eye as the gentleman by the window portrayed it with descriptive words.

Days and weeks passed.

One morning, the day nurse arrived to bring water for their baths, only to find the lifeless body of the man by the window, who had died peacefully in his sleep. She was saddened and called the hospital attendants to take the body away.

As soon as it seemed appropriate, the other man asked if he could be moved next to the window. The nurse was happy to make the switch, and after making sure he was comfortable, she left him alone.

Slowly, painfully, he propped himself up on one elbow to take his first look at the real world outside.

He strained to slowly turn to look out the window beside the bed.

It faced a blank wall. The man asked the nurse what could have compelled his deceased roommate who had described such wonderful things outside this window

Nurse responded that the man was blind and could not even see the wall. She said, 'Perhaps he just wanted to encourage you.'

Epilogue:
There is tremendous happiness in making others happy, despite our own situations.

Shared grief is half the sorrow, but happiness when shared, is doubled.

If you want to feel rich, just count all the things you have that money can't buy.

'Today is a gift, that's why it is called the present.'

Ratan Tata in world's biggest business brains list

New York: After being named among the 100 most influential people in the world by Time magazine, head of India's Tata Group Ratan Tata has been included in the list of 73 biggest brains in business for his Rs.100,000 Nano car.

Conde Nast Portfolio, a US business magazine, in its May issue on all-round brilliance, has identified business' biggest brains including media czar Rupert Murdoch, Microsoft founder Bill Gates, Google co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin, and investor Warren Buffet.

"Brilliance comes in many forms, whether it is founding a startup that kicks sand in Microsoft's face or creating an affordable car for the developing world. A small number of innovators influence the rest of the influencers in business," the magazine said.

Profiling Tata, the magazine said: "He believes the future of the auto industry rests in the hands of people who don't yet drive. Besides snapping up Jaguar and Land Rover, his company, the Tata Group, is developing a car that will cost just $2,500".

The model won't be sold in the US, but the magazine said, it has the potential to radically alter the market for manufacturers there.

"Tata-inspired followers are already revving up their engines: Nissan-Renault is partnering with India's Bajaj Auto to develop a car by 2010 that will sell for less than $3,000," the magazine added.

World’s largest Islamic reinsurance Co launched

ABU DHABI: Dubai Group, the financial services unit of the government-owned investment company "Dubai Holding", has launched the world's largest Islamic reinsurance company with a paid-up capital of one billion dirham ($272.48 million), "Gulf News" reported on Sunday.
The newly established ACR ReTakaful Holdings is a joint venture of Dubai Group, Malaysian investment group Khazanah Nasional and Singapore-based Asia Capital Reinsurance (ACR), the report said.
The deal was completed through Dubai Group's subsidiary Dubai Banking Group, a Shariah-compliant investment company. The new company will focus on general (non-life), non-cyclical and large speciality risks in infrastructure and transportation industries such as aviation, marine, energy and engineering.
It aims at leading the way in channelising these traditional risks from the conventional market into Shariah-compliant Takaful channels. Takaful is an Islamic insurance concept in accordance with the rules and regulations of Islamic law.
"We are pleased to announce this landmark joint venture with our Malaysian and Singaporean partners, which reinforces our strong presence in Asian markets," said Mohammad Abdullah Al Gergawi, chairman of Dubai Holding.
"The deal reflects Dubai Holding's commitment to strategic investments within the reinsurance business regionally and globally," he added. Founded in October 2004 by Dubai government, Dubai Holding aims at consolidating the various large-scale infrastructure and investment projects that contribute to Dubai's economic, social and industrial development.

A Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) is a mobile operator that does not own its own spectrum and usually does not have its own network infrastructure. Instead, MVNO's have business arrangements with traditional mobile operators to buy minutes of use (MOU) for sale to their own customers

Distinguishing Characteristics of the MVNO

Many are familiar with simple resellers of telecom services such as long distance, local exchange, and mobile network services. In contrast, MVNO's typically add value such as brand appeal, distribution channels, and other affinities to the resale of mobile services.

The vans termed as 'Warid On Wheels' branded as WOW are customized with in-built counters, have computer terminals in them and they accommodate 2-3 service personnel in addition to a driver and a support person. The idea is to bring superb service to those customers who may not be mobile enough to come to Warid, so Warid comes to them.

Why the Elephants Don't Run?

A number of years ago, I had the rather unique experience of being backstage
in Madison Square Garden, in New York, during the Ringling Brothers Barnum &
Bailey Circus. To say the least, it was a fascinating experience. I was able
to walk around looking at the lions, tigers, giraffes and all the other
circus animals. As I was passing the elephants, I suddenly stopped, confused
by the fact that these huge creatures were being held by only a small rope
tied to their front leg. No chains, no cages. It was obvious that the
elephants could, at any time, break away from their bonds but for some
reason, they did not. I saw a trainer near by and asked why these beautiful,
magnificent animals just stood there and made no attempt to get away.

"Well," he said, "when they are very young and much smaller we use the same
size rope to tie them and, at that age, it's enough to hold them. As they
grow up, they are conditioned to believe they cannot break away. They think
the rope can still hold them, so they never try to break free."
I was amazed. These animals could at any time break free from their bonds
but because they believed they could not, they were stuck right where they
were.

Like the elephants, how many of us go through life hanging onto a belief
that we cannot do something, simply because we failed at it once before? How
many of us are being held back by old, outdated beliefs that no longer serve
us? Have you avoided trying something new because of a limiting belief?
Worse, how many of us are being held back by someone else's limiting
beliefs? Do you tell yourself you can't sell because you're not a
salesperson?

Particularly in starting or running a business, we are cautioned not to take
risks, usually by well intentioned friends and family. How many of us have
heard, "You can't do that?" These are the dream stealers who, due to their
own limiting beliefs, will attempt to discourage you from living your
dreams. You must ignore them at all cost! I am not suggesting that you
should not seek advice from qualified individuals and mentors, but that you
avoid like the plague, being swayed by the limiting beliefs of others,
especially people who are not in their own business.

Challenge your own limiting beliefs by questioning them. If you begin to
question a belief, you automatically weaken it. The more you question your
limiting beliefs, the more they are weakened. It's like kicking the legs out
from under a stool. Once you weaken one leg, the stool begins to lose its
balance and fall. Think back to a time when you "sold" someone on yourself.
We are selling all the time. You have to sell your ideas to your spouse,
your children, and your employees - even your banker. Maybe, as a child, you
sold Girl Scout cookies or magazine subscriptions to raise money for your
school team. That was selling too!

Once you realize you are, in fact, a capable salesperson, you have weakened
that old belief and began to replace it with a new, empowering one. Look for
references to support the new beliefs you want to cultivate. As in the
example of the stool, you want to reinforce your beliefs by adding more and
more "legs" to them. Find people who have accomplished what you want to
accomplish, discover what they did and model their behavior. Remember back
to times in your past when you were successful and use that experience to
propel yourself forward. If your challenge is in sales, read sales books and
listen to tapes or attend sales seminars. This is a critical area of your
business. One that cannot be undermined by limiting beliefs.

There is a technique called "fake it until you make it" that works well. I
am not suggesting you live in denial, just that you begin to see yourself
succeeding. Visualize your successes. See yourself vividly in your minds eye
making the sale and reaching your goals. Affirm, over and over, that you are
succeeding.

Write your affirmations daily. Of course, make sure you take the appropriate
action. As it says in the Bible, "Faith without works is dead."

Remember that your subconscious mind does not know the difference between
real and imaginary. Before you go on a sales call, take a moment and
mentally rehearse the scene, just like actors and athletes do. Tell
yourself, "I'm a great salesperson." Do this over and over, especially just
before a sales call. See the sale being made. See and feel the success. You
will be pleasantly amazed at the result. Don't take my word for it. Give it
a try. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

It has been said throughout history that what ever you believe, with
conviction, you can achieve. Don't be like the poor elephant and go through
your life stuck because of a limiting belief you were given or developed
years ago. Take charge of your life and live it to the fullest. You deserve
the best!

Web Service for Number Lookup in 499 DIrectory

This API that has been made to be used as a web service. It is .Net based and can be used by any application regardless of programing language. The service has two functions, GetResultByName and GetResultByNumber, and the return type of these functions is array of string type.
1) the function GetResultByName has the following declaration.
GetResultByName(firstname,lastname,city,state) as string()
this function has four parameters, firstname, lastname, city and state. Parameter "lastname" is an essential parameter that must be given. This function returns the address and the phone number of the owner of given details.

The execution of the above code is simple, first the function is called and the corresponding record is fetched from the database, if the record is available in the database then it will simply be fetched and displayed. AOL Buys Bebo For $850 Million

Investment bank Allen & Co. has been shopping Bebo for some time. A number of potential buyers passed on the company, including News Corp., Microsoft and Google, our sources say. Yahoo may have also taken a long look, but recent woes probably prohibit it from doing any large transactions.

AOL’s intention, they told press in a briefing call this morning, is to marry AIM and ICQ with a proper social network. At a high level, AOL is saying they are basing much of their go forward social networking strategy around AIM. Layering in Bebo, they say, lets people communicate both synchronously and asynchronously. The goal is to allow people to both express themselves and extend existing relationships. AIM users have 100 buddies on average. Bebo’s platform allows those users to share and distribute media as well.

AOL’s also talking about their Platform A advertising platform which can blend big brand advertising along with performance. Bebo’s page views will be enticing to those brands to the extent they can track how those ads do.

Current President Joanna Shields (middle in picture) will continue to run Bebo and will report to AOL President Ron Grant (right in picture). Founders Michael Birch and Xochi Birch will shortly be leaving the startup, apparently. Rumor has it, though, that Shields has effectively run the company for some time. Bebo was originally launched in 2005.

Bebo is the second largest social network in the U.K. (its largest market) after Facebook. Recent Comscore data says Bebo has 22 million unique visitors and 11 billion page views; AOL said Bebo users spend an average of 40 minutes a day on the site in a press briefing. The company claims 40 million users.

Calacanis Fires People Who Have A Life

Mahalo founder and serial entrepreneur Jason Calacanis has some interesting tips up today about how to squeeze every single last thing from your startup employees.

Helpful advice includes (our interpretation):

• If you do meetings, have them over lunch, because you shouldn’t let your employees eat alone
• Don’t provide people with phones, they can always use their own cellphones, and this saves money
• Buy a decent espresso machine and provide food in the office, because you don’t want your staff to ever stop working, this way you keep them in the office every minute of every day
• Buy people who work hard a computer for home, so they can work after hours, on weekends and public holidays
• Urinary catheters are cheap, hook each employee up to one so they don’t waste minutes going to the restroom

OK, so I made the last point up. Here’s my favorite one though (direct quote):

• “Fire people who are not workaholics…. come on folks, this is startup life, it’s not a game. go work at the post office or stabucks if you want balance in your life. For realz.”

Apparently having a life isn’t “for realz” in Calacanis’ playbook so a note to possible Mahalo employees: expect to check your family at the door if you want to go work for JCal. Up to 18 hours a day for $30-35,000 (what I’ve heard is the going rate for base Mahalo employees) , you’re never allowed to go outside during this time or have a proper break…. sounds like a great place to work.

A United Nations official has warned that some of the recent internet outages affecting the Middle East may have been the work of saboteurs.

A series of cable cuts earlier this month left large parts of the Middle East without proper internet access, hurting outsourced call centre operations in Egypt, India and Pakistan.

One outage has been traced to a dragging anchor cable, but others have yet to be explained.

"We do not want to pre-empt the results of ongoing investigations," Sami al-Murshed, UN head of development, told Agence France-Presse.

"But we do not rule out that a deliberate act of sabotage caused the damage to the undersea cables over two weeks ago."

While it was initially thought that rogue shipping was responsible for the cable cuts, al-Murshed is not so sure.

"Some experts doubt the prevailing view that the cables were cut by accident, especially as the cables lie at great depths under the sea and are not passed over by ships," he said at a conference on cyber-crime in Qatar.

Omantel buys Worldcall for $193mn

MUSCAT:

Oman Telecommunications Co (Omantel) said it paid $193 million for Pakistan's Worldcall Telecom, its biggest investment outside its home country. The state-controlled company said in May it was in talks to buy a Pakistan telecom operator, identifying Worldcall the following month. It never said how much it was looking to pay.

In an emergency situation, Emergency Service personnel and hospital Staff would be able to quickly contact the right person by simply dialing the number you have stored as "ICE."

For more than one contact name simply enter ICE1, ICE2 and ICE3 etc. A great idea that will make a difference!

Microsoft offers $44.6bn for Yahoo

SAN FRANCISCO: Microsoft Corp. has pounced on slumping Internet icon Yahoo Inc. with an unsolicited takeover offer of $44.6 billion in its boldest bid yet to challenge Google Inc.'s dominance of the lucrative online search and advertising markets.
The surprise offer of $31 per share, made late Thursday and announced Friday, comes with Sunnyvale-based Yahoo in a vulnerable position.
With its profits steadily sliding, Yahoo's stock slipped to a four-year low earlier this week and a new management team has been trying to steer a turnaround sees more turbulence through 2008.
The announcement sent Yahoo's share price up 60 percent in premarket trading, while Google fell 8 percent.
In a letter to Yahoo's board of directors, Microsoft Chief Executive Steve Ballmer said the world's biggest software maker will bid $31 per share, representing a 62 percent premium to Yahoo's closing stock price Thursday.
Since reaching a 52-week high of $34.08 in October, Yahoo shares have fallen 46 percent. Yahoo climbed $11.47 a share, or 59.8 percent, to $30.65 in premarket trading.

HP introduces thin client hardware

Hewlett-Packard has introduced its first mobile thin client, a notebook that can store data and access applications wirelessly on a centralized server. In addition to the Compaq 6720t, HP introduced on Thursday two desktop thin clients, the Compaq t5730 and t5735. The 6720t and t5730 run Microsoft Windows XPe, and the t5735 uses the Debian Linux operating system and supports open source applications.

HP's thin-client hardware uses technology acquired last year in the $214 million purchase of Neoware, which sold hardware and software that allowed users to build desktop systems that could be centrally managed from servers with little desk-side intervention. Neoware's Linux-based thin-client systems complemented HP's Windows-based systems.

Nestle loses sales as restaurant bans bottled water...

Tap water is fine for Alice Waters, who stopped selling bottled stuff last year at her environmentally conscious Chez Panisse restaurant in Berkeley, California. That could be bad news for Nestle SA. Per-capita sales of the product in the US will rise 6.3 per cent this year and 3.6 per cent in 2010, slowing from 8.9 per cent last year, according to Euromonitor International Ltd.

Operating profit growth at Nestle's water unit, whose 2006 sales of 9.6 billion Swiss francs ($8.7 billion) were 10 per cent of the Swiss company's total, will shrink by half to 5 per cent in 2008, UBS AG has forecast.


Beverage companies including Nestle, Coca-Cola Co. and PepsiCo Inc. are also facing inroads from private labels in the $15 billion industry. The competition comes as religious groups and environmentalists say that bottling wastes energy and overtaxes landfills.

Airbus wins $6.9bn order from AWAS

NEW YORK: Airbus has won an order worth $6.9 billion from leasing company AWAS Ltd for as many as 100 planes, The Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday. The report comes after a year of strong sales. Louis Gallois, chief executive of Airbus's parent, EADS, said earlier this week that the company was at the "peak of the cycle."
Rival Boeing Co (BA.N) recently posted an industry record 1,413 net plane orders for 2007, worth about $170 billion at list prices.
Airbus reports its tally in the next two weeks. The Journal report quoted Airbus executive John Leahy as saying that the upcoming announcement will not include the AWAS deal, which Airbus will book for this year.

PTA Terminates License of Instaphone

Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has, with immediate effect, terminated the license of M/S Pakcom (Instaphone) on account of Company’s failure to pay its outstanding dues. The payable amount would be recovered under Section 30 of the Pakistan Telecommunication (Re-organization) Act. The Authority has issued a detailed determination in this regard.

According to details, M/S Pakcom’s license was renewed on April 19, 2005 for another term of 15 years against the price of US$ 291 Million payable in installments as per the license conditions. The licensee failed to follow the payment schedule provided in its renewed license. The licensee, through its representative from time to time, requested the Authority to allow time to make the outstanding payments. Inspite of every concession, to the licensee, in terms of time and its persistent failure to make the payments, action, including show-cause, was initiated as per Section 23 of the Act, which was neither satisfactorily replied nor outstanding dues paid.

In the final hearing on November 29, 2007 the representative of M/S Instaphone requested for further time to make the payments but without any cogent evidence or specific date for the same. The Authority’s considered opinion is that the licensee’s contravention of the terms and conditions of the license regarding its financial obligations is grave and persistent, resulting in the termination of its license. PTA has also directed Frequency Allocation Board to immediately withdraw its frequency spectrum assigned to M/S Instaphone.

Within hours of yesterday's assassination of former Pakistani Prime
Minister Benazir Bhutto, malware makers exploited the breaking news to
dupe users into downloading attack code, security researchers said
Friday.

Searches for news about Bhutto's killing and the ensuing chaos in
Pakistan listed sites pimping a bogus video coder/decoder (codec),
said analysts at McAfee Inc., Symantec Corp. and WebSense Inc.

For instance, WebSense found such a site simply by using "benazir" to
search on Google. Meanwhile, McAfee quickly located 10 sites hosted on
Blogger.com, Google Inc.'s blog service, that were spreading the fake
codec.

The sites use the well-worn tactic of promising a video -- in this
case one of Bhutto's assassination -- but telling Windows users that
they need to install a new high-definition video codec, the program
that decodes the digital data stream, to view the clip. Naturally, the
so-called codec is no such thing, but is instead rigged code that
downloads a variant of the Zlob Trojan horse, a back door that can
infect the compromised PC with a wide range of other malware.

"Even death isn't sacred to some," said Symantec researcher Vikram
Thakur in a post to the company's security response blog.

Other hackers are relying on the news of Bhutto's assassination to
draw users to sites that forgo the codec angle and instead conduct
drive-by attacks, said Rahul Mohandas, a security analyst at McAfee's
Avert Labs unit. "There are a plethora of sites which attempt drive-by
installations when unsuspecting users visit search-engine results for
'Benazir Bhutto,'" said Mohandas in a post to the Avert Labs blog this
morning. "Many of these compromised pages have malicious scripts,
which point to the 3322 domain. These pages contain obfuscated
variants of the MS06-014 exploit, which is perhaps one of the most
popular of all the exploits we see on a daily basis."

MS06-014, issued in April 2006, patched a critical vulnerability in an
ActiveX control that is part of Microsoft Data Access Components
(MDAC), which are packaged with Windows XP and Server 2003.

Shilling bogus codecs is a popular pastime of attackers. The technique
has been used to plant malware on PCs from singer Alicia Keys' MySpace
page, for example, and was the vector used by hackers who went after
Macs last month.

KARACHI: The scrip of Callmate Telips on Thursday closed at upper lock (Rs 14.20) after hitting 23 lower locks continuously and sinking to Rs 13.20 on December 12 2007 from RS 45.25 on November, 8 2007.The story started after the company had announced an unexpected result on 12 November 2007.
The company posted loss after taxation of Rs 359 mn (LPS of Rs. 5.50) in FY07 as compared to profit after taxation of Rs 603 mn (EPS of Rs. 9.23) in FY06. The investors and analysts were expecting profitable results but loss has shocked the overall investor's sentiment.
Yesterday the game started after 12 pm when callmate again hit the lower lock at Rs12.20, but after 12 pm the buying started both in open as well as in odd lot markets and this continuous buying from some brokers helped close the scrip with its upper lock at RS 14.20. The overall 6.6 million shares were traded in open market. Shujaat Ali Qarni, the new chairman of the Callmate Telips, is now looking to reestablish the company. Callmate has to pay off around Rs.1 billion payable to PTCL.
According to our sources the officials of Pakistan telecommunication authority are also negotiating PTCL management about these huge liabilities.
We expect that in the coming weeks there may be some changes expected in Callmate Telips Company.

It's not the time we don't have, it's the priority we are unaware how to set.

I always use to say that, i don't have time to do this or that but never though for a moment that actually I do have time but in that given time my priority is different.

I realized this when, one of my friend told me that he is not having ample time to study while he is busy in his business and I told him ma friend it's not time it's ur priority towards ur business.

Now if you will prioritize your study more then it will pay you off in long run.

Google to focus on mobile Internet in China

Google says it's grappling with an unusual challenge in China's Internet market how to cater to masses of Web surfers who go online for the first time via mobile devices, rather than migrating from PCs. PSEBs new software to up SMEs efficiency

KARACHI: Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) has successfully developed open source Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software, styled as Auto Plus, for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in readymade garments, hosiery, automotive parts and accessories, textile processing and surgical instruments' verticals, Board officials said here Thursday Developed under PSEB's project, in collaboration with Pakistan Association for Automotive Parts and Accessories' Manufacturers(PAAPAM) and 15 of its more far sighted member units, four unique ERP software's have been developed by member companies of PSEB. This ERP software's have been designed to improve the productivity of SME units. The PSEB initiative also aims to allow the local software companies to gain expertise in the development of ERP solutions for the local manufacturing industry and to promote the use of open source technology. The newly developed ERP software has been successfully implemented at a model unit, 'Kortech Industries' in Lahore. Using this technology, Kortech Industries has now automated all its processes from customer order to the delivery of goods. The implementation of ERP software has resulted in an 87 % reduction in time and a 70 % reduction in human resources needed at the model unit. Official stated that the product is now being implemented at 14 additional PAAPAM units. After implementation in 15 member units of PAAPAM, the product will be available, free of cost, for over 250 other member units of PAAPAM. The additional units will only have to pay the cost for implementation of the software. SME BSF (Business Support Fund) has approved to provide 50 % funding for the implementation cost. PSEB has initiated this project in order to help SMEs to increase their operational efficiency and become more productive, thereby resulting in increasing Pakistan's exports. Presently, according to a World Bank study, SMEs in Pakistan are not operating at their full potential. The SMEs in Pakistan employ around 80 % of the total workforce, but contribute only 35 % to the national Gross Domestic Product (GDP).PSEB is a government agency mandated to promote Pakistan's IT industry, including software, services, hardware and call centers, locally and globally. "The objective of REITs is anchored around the concept to introduce an alternative asset class with the purpose to add depth to the capital market and provide transparency to real estate sector in the form of comprehensive disclosures and accountability through a trust mechanism ingrained in the REITs Regulations," he said at SECP consultative meeting held to discuss REITs Regulations, 2007 in Lahore on Wednesday. The session was a sequel to the earlier one held in Karachi on August 9, 2007. The participants of the meeting included prominent lawyers, chartered accountants, real estate developers, constructors, surveyors, valuers, project managers and representatives from the Punjab Government.

The media educator John Culkin remarked: "We don't know who discovered water, but we're certain it wasn't a fish." The observation summarizes why I recently pitched Jeff Pulver on relaunching FWD, the VoIP operator formerly known as Free World Dialup. (Disclosure: I am helping Pulver relaunch FWD.)

Though not as well-known as Skype or Vonage, FWD, now 12 years old, is the longest-surviving VoIP company in the world. From the beginning, FWD distinguished itself through advocacy efforts (e.g. FCC Pulver Order) and enabling tools (e.g. free SIP device registration), which helped the company attract some 700,000 registrations.

FWD does not seek to provide a communication service as much as empower amateurs to create their own communication solutions. The do-it-yourself ethic saves end users from waiting for the so-called experts to awake from their telco-trance and figure it out for us.

A decade into an Internet-enabled communications era, most communication offers remain bound by 20th century definitions. Consider the examples of SunRocket and the newcomer, Ooma. We can debate the technical innovation or pricing advantage(s) of their respective products, but both companies viewed the world through a telco lens focused on one thing: Getting a share of profits enjoyed by entrenched telcos.

The usual business theory that success depends on providing better value to consumers falls short in the case of telco startups. It fails due to two line items on the income statement: 'marketing expenses' and 'COGS (cost of goods sold). Marketing is expensive because it's hard to win customers.

New entrants like Ooma will spend far more on customer acquisition than incumbents ever have, because incumbents acquired their customers in a monopoly context and now need only invest in retaining them. Incumbents own the telephone network, too, which puts new entrants at their mercy for interconnection, inflating COGS. There are still more expense traps for new entrants that survive the marketing and interconnection gauntlets (just ask Vonage.)

The death rate of start-ups that touch the telephone network remains near 100%, but startups pursuing new ways to enable voice communication need not limit their efforts to improving the telephone call, because "communication" is not synonymous with "telephone call." After all, a telephone call falls woefully short as an alternative to meeting someone in person. The audio quality of telephone calls compares unfavorably to even AM radio.

FWD sustains itself through a membership option to keep the focus on communication rather than billing systems. Ooma represents a step in the right direction. It trades the usual services model for a consumer electronics model, but the Ooma device still has to compensate for a ton of telephone network baggage.

The arrival of the Internet can release us from the limitations of the telephone network, yet so far we have been inexplicably unwilling to use this key to our freedom to venture outside the telephone network prison. Even as the experts tell us the price of a voice call will drop to zero, both AT&T and Verizon managed to enforce price increases in the last 12 months.

This is one reason why calling costs still leave two thirds of the world's population with few, if any, communication options. Yet all this can change for those following FWD's lead: Imagine a communication future as if the traditional phone network never existed.

Just this morning at about 9-45 am I had a detailed discussion with the electricity regulator known as NEPRA in Islamabad, whereby I had sent and eMail just 4 days before for an NOC for wind power on self finance basis, but an NOC whereby the KESC will install a digital meter which will allow Reverse Metering for the units generated by Wind Power and not consumed for any reason, will be sent to the KESC network, and will be absorbed the KESC. Hence a consumer will get credit by reversing/debiting the units, which means you are reducing your units burned from KESC, or have a plus or credit depending on the units generated.

In view of the wind velocity, which is good in coastal belt of Karachi, Thatta etc., the wind power is cost effective. Probably what I'm told by the DG Nepra yours is the first case/application we've recieved, and will consider the case.

I have mentioned the just few days before deregulation of power utilities in the EU on the pattern of UK, whereby local utilities as gas which are pipes, and cable of electric utilities can share with other local utilities duly licensed by the Govt., will be allowed at the EU.

I had exactly quoted him the telecom., sector deregulation, and the monopoly of PTCL wires, and the case, which sounded very, very interesting to the gentleman on line, who had to rush for a meeting immediately, and wanted to discuss the area.

With alternate energy, the important cost effective in coastal as Karachi is wind power whereby utilities are established in EU for supply of power as low as 6 cents per KW/hr, with cost/benefit ratio.

I'm trying to locate wind data which studies has been carried out by various private and Govt. entities which indicates the exact wind velocity, to justify the establishment of wind mill to generate power. In some areas as the area where I live, there isn't enough wind, in view of buildings, and other reaons, so the power will not be irregular. In such cases the power generated can be taken at an invertor, and then a/c. current could be used, or sold to the KESC as per production of the wind cycle.

The most important area is the grant of licenses to the local, or community licenses utilising the KESC network to supply electricity to commercial, domestic and industrial units. The optimum size power generation could be utilised for thermal, and wind power.

In my discussion just this morning I have mentioned the case of deregulation of PTA and how it has successfully been appreciated.

The EU case model and deregulation is very interesting and should be studied and be taken on its own merits to Pakistan consumer, to overcome the scarcity particularly Karachi.

Hence investment could be pooled from community based on a community group or companies managed and owned by the group leader/member and operated effectively, with the sense of ownership, and cost benefit.

Regarding MQM they're saying now in todays newspaper to put a waiver for June bill to the consumer from KESC. They don't realise the KESC with deficit of almost a couple of million deficit each month, is running in heaviest losses, at the current rate. If the bills are not paid by the consumer for one month, how they will pay the salaries, and how they will purchase fuel, consumables etc., Making slogans for giving free for one month for the whole city of Karachi is non sense.

The most important breakthrough will be the breakup of monopoly of WAPDA/KESC, which I think is the right time to be taken on the platform of deregulation in other markets, and also India.

This will be a contribution to the society for self reliance, and entrepreneural spirit. I see the future exactly on the pattern of the telecom., sector de-regulation and licensing in the power sector, exactly on what you have highligted is the breakup or divesture of Bell operating companies.

People of Pakistan have seen a new Telecom World in Pakistan, The same people who used to wait for 20 years for a phone connection, now have 3 GSM Chips in there pockets.

PTCL which used to charge 120 rs a min to call the US now offers the same for 1 rupee a min.

Pakistan now has the CHEAPST Cell phone service, in compare to ANYWHERE in the world, and yet the phone companies still make A LOT of money.

Today I saw a program on AAj TV About the Electricity problems of Karachi, and I do not know why no one has suggested to request the Govt to step in and form a new Body to GOVERN The electricity and allocate private companies to come in and become the power providers just like they did for phone service.

The Chairman of WAPDA according to this program says that there will be no power for the cities like Karachi for the next 7 years.

I have 2 small suggestions:

1. What My Suggestion is that Pakistan Govt can issue the licenses for 10 nation wide and 100+ local companies to privately provide power to the consumer.

This can be done in multiple phases, and a Urgent license can be issued instantly, and then a good policy can be made about the power policy and announced next year.

2. The Govt should also remove any and all taxes and duties on import of alternate energy tools for consumers, like a 5kva wind generator from China now costs only 4000$ (I have already ordered mine) which will not create pollution and nor will cost the consumer any money in future , and will only be used by the consumer to have power, thus generating more productivity for himself and others around him.

5 out of 5 licenses should be awarded to international companies and 5 to local companies, so that we can benefit from both national and international experiences.

I think that since this problem is in majority in Karachi, MQM should take this seriously and have this done really quickly by the President or the national assembly.

How will this actually work:

In the telecom world a very simple example is of DSL service, PTCL gets money on every connection that runs via the wire of PTCL by say multinet and multinet can still compete based on the quality of service with PTCL and give better service to consumers on the same wire.

The same Copper wire of KESC can be used by the private company and they can pay a fee to KESC for using there wire, unless they can provide there own wire to the consumer.

The Private Power concept is not something new, and is done at this time in United Kingdom and in the United States.

I request you to forward these 2 small suggestions to those who actually matter, and who can get this done for us.

ALT+DOWN ARROW opens a selected drop-down list.
